Can anyone give me some tips about how to get the drivers side wiring harness unclipped inside the door panel? I can't figure out how to get that sucker undone. I've been poking that one release tang on the inside edge with a hooked awl but it seems like something else is holding the harness together, as it won't budge.

I ended up taking the long route and unscrewed the power window controls from the door panel using a phillips driver bit with a hex shaft, turning the bit with a wrench (not enough room in there for any other kind of screw driver, and a normal offset driver was too small). It was kind of a PITA.

After I unscrewed the window controls from the door, I was able to figure out how to unclip the harness plug. There is NO WAY I could have done it without unscrewing the window controls from the door panel.

 

easy enough to pop the window control switch plate up from the door panel and remove the harness.

Doh, that would have been just a wee bit easier than unscrewing the controls

Reid, im gonna try out this mod tonight, i have all the materials on hand just waitin till after dinner, but are there any other tips youd like to add? im a little concerned about the connections, cause id hate to have to get my power windows or locks fixed cause i fucked em up, thanks any advice is appreciated!

 

check out the link in post #188 to remove switches and door panel.
I used a dremel to remove melt points on armrest instead of drilling.
use some upward pressure while grinding the melt points and they will
pop right off. I went over the stock fabric with the new leather and pleased with the results, gives a little padding and rounds off the edges nice

 

I like that console cover dabo, I may try that but with the fabric I went with.

Decided to shake it up a little.

 

What adhesive did you use?

Some guys were complaining about the adhesive not working in hotter climates- I see you're in Florida as well- how is yours holding up so far?

 

3M Hi-Strength 90 spray adhesive (available at Home Depot)
great stuff, no problem with the heat

 

looks great, adds some color to the interior

 

Thanks dabo! I'm finishing it all up tonight. Painting the speaker grills and some odds and ends, and covering the front armrests. Ill post a bunch of pics once its done, should be sometime tomorrow morning.

Edit to add - was using loctite spray adhesive, not working very well, picked up a can of the 3m - looks like itll do the job nicely.

Did mine today! Came out great! I used some soft vinyl...







For adhesive.. I got some 3M 77series, but descided not to use it and instead used some Wolf Grip. its this stuff we use at work for doing laminate counter tops and other stuff we need to adhere permanently. its really strong stuff!!! I couldnt even pull it apart after it got somewhat dry. (Ihad to redo one, )
