Opinions on spanking?

I was spanked but only when my behavior warranted it. Sometimes I was put in time out. If we were out in public and needed some correction (minor infraction) my dad would grab me by the arm, pick me up and give me one good pop on the rear.

If I was at home and I did something seriously wrong, my dad would tell me why I was getting spanked, tell me to bend over and give me a few pops on the rear.

My dad was usually the designated spanker. My mom's spankings didn't hurt, even with a belt, I usually acted like it hurt so that I didn't have to get spanked by dad.

I turned out to be a good kid and now adult. When I have kids of my own, I will spank them. I spank my dog sometimes if he needs correction. Typically a deep assertive tone will correct him however, sometimes he needs a quick pop on the rear to get his attention. He only gets spanked if he is caught in the act of doing something so he will associate his behavior with the correction.

I only talked back to my mom once as a child and I quickly got a slap in the face. I will never forget that I still will not talk back to my mom to this day.

My mom and dad broke many an object spankin my mischevious ass during my formative years. Nothing worked as good as being grounded in my room. Now that was some character building shit. Not much fun things to do in your room back in the 60s, lol. Boring shit, snuck out one of the 7 windows in my room once but only got me whipped and grounded longer so I'd advise against that shit.

 

Now, being grounded is almost the same as being not grounded. (Stuck in a room, look through Facebook, etc)

 

Might have to ground kids nowadays by forcing them to play outside

 

I got sprayed off with the hose if I can home too dirty.

when i was a kid, my "spankings" were more like beatings. it was way over the top. and i got "spanked" with belts, closed fists, wooden spoons, etc...

My mother spanked the shit out of me and it didn't work...then I watch the "Nanny" and iis amazed what she gets done with a bit of discipline, and timeout.

 

My mom would break wooden spoons on me and I would just laugh at her to really piss her off. I was such a little prick when I was a kid.

Got spanked as a kid and I believe it kept me in line. Too many parents these days let their kids run wild with no respect even to themselves as parents.

Have you ever seen a kid talk back to his mom at the store and even flip her the bird!? I did and all the mom said was "Timeout for you when you get home". I really hope timeout was a ass spanking for that kid.

Another incident (same store), A mother actually disciplined her kid with a spanking, which I applauded lol, only to have another woman come up to her and tell her that if she had to "ABUSE" her kids then she shouldn't be a mother. All hell broke loose and it turned into a brawl that was instigated by the non-beater.

I was spanked. I'm not trying to toot my own horn too much, but when I got my professional doctorate at 24, I decided I turned out ok.

 

I got spanked, when I was real young open handed, but when I got older I got the belt. It definitely taught me right from wrong, in my head when I was thinking about doing something bad I'd think, "well shit, if I do this I'm getting the belt.. forget that!"

 

This made me laugh...and remember back 41 years when I was about 5yo...some how managed to take a switch away from Mom and hide under the bed out of her reach...don't remember what the original thing was that she was switching me for...but my little "grab switch and hide routine" got me the belt from Dad when he got home....never tried that crap again!
