    Hey guys,

So i am now in the market for a newer truck, i have a 98 ranger now. but its time for some new wheels lol i had a hard time deciding what kind of truck i wanted to get, somthing with a little better MPG then my ranger, i would love a full size but dont have a true need for it, or the money for gas lol. a v6 is plenty of power for what i tow. but anyways thats when i discovered the Tacoma, i love the look of them, the newer ones 2006+, so i would like some input on them, any major bad things, hows the mpg? whats the best year to get?
    Thanks guys!
If you want to pm me your answer thats cool too

    Thanks Anthony.

Yeah man these trucks are great I highly recomend the 6spd cause of its fun to drive and 1st gear is good offroad (idk what you intend to do 4x4 offroad or just dd it). The auto gets better mpg's but the stick is just fun to drive.

Haha, there he is. I was waiting for you to turn up. The best years, well the newer body style, like mine is 05+. They all look the same and only minor changes were made, if any. I have an 08 and love it. So the year is pretty much what you can find in your price range. And welcome to TW, everyone here is very helpful!

BTW, check out the FL section.

Welcome from Orl.. I have to say the new ones are not as well built as the old ones but no one is who they were. When you find one you like car fax it and also have someone you trust check it out. Just my 2 cents. Jim

    welcome anthony!

I would say get an 07+. they are all essentially the same truck, but some minor changes were made along the way. starting in 2007, toyota redid the motor mounts with a much stronger design. if you're just going to use it to commute and pull your stuff around it's not a big deal. it's only hard offroading (not much of that in florida) that people were having any trouble with them, and even then, trouble was rare. overall though, a very solid truck. you'll be able to beatit up for years and years and it'll keep chugging along. the mileage will be better too. i have a foot tall roof rack that acts like an extra set of brakes that are stuck on whenever i drive, and i still get a minimum of 15.5 mpg. average is about 16-17. we've got a good crowd in florida too. come hang out at one of the meets. great people, and arguably even better trucks ;)

Welcome! I'd definitely go check out some vehicles in the Tampa area. There are some good guys at Courtesy Toyota, Stadium Toyota, and Toyota of Tampa Bay (as well as all the others I'm sure), and they'll be glad to show you some used vehicles.

Welcome from St. Augustine, can't think of any major issues. I get about 15-16 mpg around town, but thats with a 3" lift and 33" tires. Also, I could probably go a little lighter on the skinny pedal . As for year, as has already been said, anything 2005+ is essentially the same, so just find something within your price and mileage range, and go for it. Good luck!

EDIT: My truck's also still pretty new (just over 3,000 miles), so i guess mpg might increase a little as the engine breaks in.

I just picked up an 11. Had the same dilemma and did plenty of research and found the Tacoma to be he best overall.

If you're in the pasco area you know the traffic on 19 which I drive everyday 25 miles each way and I get on average 19 mpg with that drive. I picked mine up at Clearwater Toyota and got a fair deal and had a pretty good buying experience. They also do free lifetime car washes which is a nice bonus.

US19 is horrible. It's getting way too over populated.

Something to possibly consider, 2009 and newer are available with A-TRAC.

Used to work in DC. 19 is nothing like the beltway and 270.
