I had a 2005 TRD OFF ROAD (ie. fully loaded) and it didn't have it or was it mentioned in literature at the time. No matter, it wasn't perfected until 2009 model, anyway from what I have read.

I know "to you" it is... When you finally own an A-TRAC equipped Tacoma, then you will have some validity to your ststements about a system you don't have. Right now, it just sounds like A-TRAC hate and nothing more.

As for the difference, the hydraulic brake booster is the big one... it is what makes A-TRAC work and also enhances TRAC and Auto LSD on the Off Road 4WD truck (2009+).

The chart of how to use the VSC Off switch I have posted so often, says NEW FEATURES (2009). That alone says that VSC and TRAC has been changed since 2004 or when-ever you guys say it was first available on the Tacoma.

You should read manual from time to time. It was hydraulic all way on 2006
here Why would I own one, I did not want to buy truck with traction control in 2006 and my stance on that crappy system did not change in past 5 years. :notsure:
My wife has vehicle with traction control and it is park 2 months out of the year due to snow, for that 2 months she is driving my pickup with out traction control.
So much for POS traction control.

Its one of those brilliant Toyota ideas such us.

"hey lets spray paint the frame instead of dipping in the primer then paint"

"hey lets put sealed wheel bearings on the truck lets make them with plastic cage too so we are sure that if one travels through water they fail right after warranty."

"hey lets install electronically controlled 4x4 system because in old one there were no problems and we did not make money on it"

"hey lest not put manual hubs so diff bearings get wear out sooner and we can charge customers for new ones'

    1) Traction Control on a 2WD compared to any 4WD... are you kidding me? Of course she wants the 4WD.

    2) Crappy? Seriously, do you ever get out and wheel with anything other than your own plain jane truck to see how new technology works... or do you just bad mouth anything you don't yet own?

    3) Have you owned any other vehicles besides Toyota? I have, and while you like to put down Toyota and their features, I know from owning other brands that Toyota is an excellent made vehicle based on my experiences with three of them, over 260,000 miles the past 10 years, and lots of off roading... I have posted many photos of my trucks in action.

A spinning tire is a waste... power is lost that could move the truck.
Limiting or stopping the spin, transfers power to the traction tire that can actually move the truck. Traction Control, Limited Slip Differentials, Lockers and A-TRAC are all devices Toyota has put on Tacomas to limit or stop the spin BECAUSE they work to get you moving.

I like to keep on moving and I also like that what Toyota puts on my truck all do a great job at it... I didn't need to pay a dime to any aftermarket traction aid because the Tacoma is so well designed in that department.

Sorry you don't like yours as it was made from Toyota... I love mine!

In case you missed 2gen its not AWD so its 2wd most of the time. Whats your point here?

    2) Lol @ "plane jane" ...Silly... Look at my avatar. That's FZJ80- locked, linked raised with SFA ...and... comes with 9.5 inch rear diff. Compare to that your TRD Offroad is a junker and pu$$y wagon. I think its you who should try driving a real offroad truck not a poser.
Plane jane truck my a$$ :D

    3) Yes I did and Do. Whats you talking about Willis ? Changes that I am talking about are from old Toyota to new Toyota. We used to get Lockers now we get ATRAC. We used to get manual TC now its electronic. Bearings used have steel cage now plastic, wheel bearings used to last 180K now 40K miles.

Spinning tire is a waste. Controlling spinning tire with brakes is not only a waste but also stupid. Brakes are needed to slow down the car, wasting them on making car go is pure stupidity. atleast in IMHO

Thats right you did nto spend money on aftermarket but you spend MORE money on the factory package.

Wouldn't it be nice if folks could ask a VSC or TRAC question without the thread devolving into the same old shitstorm?
