New to the forum, not new to Toyota trucks

Greetings,
I am new to the forum. A friend of mine got me on here, and I decided to quit lurking. I have a 2006, 4X4, Speedway Blue, Double Cab, TRD Sport. It has a leveling kit, ARB bull bar, 8000 lbs WARN winch, 265 Firestone Destination AT's, and an aluminum toolbox. I have a set of BFG 255 series mud terrains I use off road, but didn't feel like burning up the BFG's on the highway, so I swap them out during hunting season. Pics are posted below. I also have the back half of a 87 Toyota 4X4 that I am using as a trailer. Used to be a parts truck; I reincarnated it as a ATV/UTV trailer. I live in southern new mexico, and needed a trailer that wouldn't hang up on every rock, stump, boulder, or Jeep YJ I came across. Not quite done with it, it is more of a work in progress. It is about 60% done. Needs wiring, another coat of paint, bedliner, rims and tires. That sort of thing. I have wired my taco to accept a WARN 8000 in the trailer hitch, and use a marine rotary switch to power either the front winch, the rear winch, both, or neither. I also use a Cambell Housfeld aircompressor in the 110V outlet in the bed for airing up trailer tires, truck tires, and when my wife picks up a nail in one of her tires, which happens about once a week. Any aircompressor would work, as long as it pulls less than 3.5 amps or so. The one I have is 2 Amps at 110V which translates into 220 Watts. (Go to Lowes, it's a Father's Day sale!!) This is my 3rd Toyota truck, and I looked for this paticular model for 2 years before I bought it. I wanted one that was used, so when (not if) I scratch it, I am not nearly as mad as when I scratch a brand new truck. It had to be a TRD, 4X4, double cab, and speedway blue. 3 of my last 4 vehicles have been blue, call it an obsession.

I don't get it, I think that speedway blue is the BEST color of a Taco, but according to a poll, a third of the people on this forum don't like it. I think it is jealousy, personally. I mean, not everyone can be blessed with a blue truck. Then how would you find YOUR truck at the mall??

Glad you like the blue ARB. It looks different in different light levels. It is not painted, it is powder coated. You cannot get a metallic powder coat. (At least that I could find.. I wanted it powder coated to protect it from trees, bushes, and the like. I only had my last Toyota for 8 years. Paid that sucker off, twice! Then the ex took it in the divorce.
I am planning this one for a while, wouldn't trade it for anything, got too much invested in it.

Update: I got another coat of paint on the trailer, wired the lights, rolled in a bed liner and installed the chains. It has a weepy pinion seal, but I will swap that out in the next day or too. Doesn't leak enough to drip on the driveway, just kind of annoying. The lights were the hardest part, I wired it with a pigtail so I could pull doubles, if need be.

Next is to fix the pinion seal, and a set of 17" TRD wheels, and I will have to find another project. I also installed a 30 bulb LED dome light in the Taco. Got the idea from the thread on this forum.
(Busy weekend, comes from being in aircraft maintenance for 22 years, have to find things to do. )
Not quite SWB, but close. Especially since Rustoleum doesn't carry speedway blue, and that is a rattlecan job. If I had a paint booth, and all the proper stuff, I could do it properly, but that kind of stuff is hard to find. Especially since it is a trailer, and I am going to beat the crap out of it anyway. It is for taking a fourwheeler waaaayyyyy out in the sticks. Welcome to New Mexico, just add water.

 

I was stationed in vegas for 5 years. I know what you mean. That looks like fun. Got to watch for the boulders, or you are going to be dragging important looking bits. I had to go get several people whose bravery exceeded their capabilities. One of which managed to high center a 4X4 ranger on a rock about the size and shape of a vw beetle. He heard about that for the next two years or so. He drives an x runner now.
