Suspension question

I need some advice. I purchased a 2001 Toyota Tacoma 4 door 4x4 with what I was told was a 3" suspension lift. I looked under the truck and it has what seems to be coilovers on the front, brand name is sway away. My problem is the coilover on the drivers side has actually broke. I took it into a local shop and their advice was an entire new lift kit.

I've been looking at the OME kit on Toytec's website, what I need is a complete lift kit so I can take off the old one and have it replaced.

Could I please get some suggestions from other people, I consider you guys subject matter experts.

Welcome to TW! I was thinking rebuild might not be a bad idea if it can be done with a new coil put in. OME is a good lift on a budget but if you got some money laying around I have been told Icon is an amazing kit to have under the truck.

 

Yes I'm on a budget but I want something of good quality also. I just don't know much about this kind of stuff.

 

Check out OME from Wheelers or Downsouth Motorsports (just started selling OME). Or the toytec ULK from toytec. The difference between the two is the ULK is adjustable up front. You will hear that one rides better than the other from many but iirc the OME is actually made to be a little more comfortable on the road. Does it already have aftermarket UCAs and a front differential drop?

 

I'm actually putting together a lift. OME coils, Bilstien 5100s, DSM UCAs, and a 3 leaf progressive AAL

 

UCA means upper control arms? To be honest I couldn't tell you, is there a way I could tell by just looking? I can take pics if necessary it is up in my garage, I just need to order a kit a.s.a.p. This is my daily driver and I need to fix it immediately.

 

Yeah. UCA=Upper control arms. If its a piece of stamped metal they are stock. If its a round tube with a ball you can see from both sides you should have aftermarket UCAs. The aftermarket UCAs give you the adjustment needed to get the alignment right. To tell you the truth I think one is as good as the other between the ULK and the OME kit. You can get either one from toytec put together already and they give a discount code for forum members. Those two are the best lifts on a budget in my opinion.

 

oh BTW do not get a lift with spacers in it otherwise you will hate yourself for spending even a penny on the spacers part!

 

OK thank you for the advice, I'm going to check to see if I have aftermarket UCA and then I'm going to call and order the OME kit with out spacers.

just ordered this, is it everything i need?

 

unless you got a quick place to go and get the coilovers put together or have your own spring compressor I would call and see if you could get the front shock assembly put together so when you get them you can put them on right away.

 

I have a place who is doing everything for me, well I'm in the waiting mode now for my stuff to arrive. I will take a pic of the truck when it is finished, that is if I survive the labor cost.

I have aftermarket UCA's. Dropping the truck off next wednesday to get worked on. Should I ask to keep all the sway away race runner lift kit they are taking off, or is it junk?

 

I say keep it and see if anyone on here wants to buy it. Depending on whats broken/damaged other than the coil spring someone might be able to fix it and use it.
