According to Toyota, the rear cam is NOT available in the reg cab 4x4. However, it is installed in the tailgate handle, and wired up to some point in the cab. Obviously, this wiring is supposed to go to the inside rear mirror if you so happen to have a access or double cab model. I have looked in the drivers side kick panel and in back of the interior fuse panel for a white connector with 4 wires going to it. I am asuming its white because it is so in my Tundra when I installed a cam in that.

Does anyone have a clue as to where this harness is, before I start tearing apart the interior around the windshield. I intend on installing this to my avic z2 navigation system which has a rear cam connection. The actual mirror with the rear cam screen costs over 600 from toyota and there is just no way I am going to buy that.

Thank you for that info. The install is alot easier than I thought using that mirror. I was assuming that Toyota just left a plug in the kick panel as they did with the trailer hitch, and xm radio install.

What puzzles me is why does Toyota say that it is not available in the reg cab when do they do prewire right up to the mirror?

I also have an 09 man trans and it will work. All I did was purchase the mirror, reach into the headliner, pulled the harness down and plugged it in. Put the tranny in reverse and you have rear cam working in the mirror.
    It will definetly work

You can also replace the 2 speed wiper sw with a intermittant switch. Dealers will tell you that it cant be done and that they would have to rewire everything for it. As usual, this is nonsense just like being told that your truck doesnt come with a rear cam. Find the thread or post "09 intermittent wiper install" Very simple 30 minute job. order wiper switch for a 08 Tundra. Do not order for an 09 Tacoma as the controls will work backwards for some unknown reason.

It is interesting that the systems knows when the car is in reverse on a manual tranny. Glad you got your to work. You got the big or small screen?

I saw the intermitten wipper and will probably do the wipper first because it is cheaper.

    Thanks for all the info.

There is a reverse signal to the mirror in the wiring harness.

Common wiring is so they can delay customization as long as possible (all the way to the dealer in some cases). Packages for different models are determined by Marketing and Focus Groups.
