    gents, the time is winding down... im leaving afghanistan here in a few weeks for R&R and will only have 4 months when i come back... im prepping to buy my tacoma on leave first thing and i have landed both a trd off road jbl audio system and a sport trd package with jbl audio....

    i cant decide which one.. are they truly totally different and made differently? or is it cosmetic, pretty much? i will not be mudding all the time, i will generally be using it to drive back and forth to post, and to haul my motorcycle back home to tennessee. i will be using it when i go hunting and camping so i will be going off road sometimes, but not hardcore off-roading. sooo all that being said, sport or off road?

    If you're going to be sort of a middle of the road driver, with mostly street driving and mild off-road driving, then I'd recommend the Sport. It'll be a little more comfortable and have a smoother ride and you won't pay for things that in all likelihood, you won't really need. However, the argument could also be made to get the off-road so that you can go camping and not be limited as much. I think either one will be a good decision but if I had to pick, I'd say just go with the Sport, especially if cosmetically you are neutral on both packages.

    Alpine HU, Apline 6.5 3 way Speakers, Access Cover.
    I have had both... the 07 the blue in Sig was Off Road.... the Silver pic is my sport. The sport has much nicer ride and has the appearance package with scoop and matching grille etc.

    My OR did ride more firm and is a more capable vehicle Off Road becasue of the locker, but for me they are both nice trucks and you cant go wrong with either. I wanted the better ride, so I opted for the sport. if you plan to wheel it, get the Off Road.

    Are you going to build it? Because if you are, get an SR5.



    SR5. I got an Offroad and the only thing I haven't taken off from the OR package is A-TRAC and the rear locker. And honestly, it would've been better to get an SR5, save 10 grand, and put that money into building it.

    my recommendation based on the fact that you live in Tennessee would be an Off Road. once you take the truck off road you will likely get hooked.

    This is what I did.

    You can build EXACTLY what you want going this route.....unless the hood scoop/monochrome/electric seats/etc are must haves.

    Unless you plan on spending a considerable amount of time off pave then the benefits of the Off-Road package are a moot point.

    My opinion you should get the sport, I'm happy with mine and dispite of what some people say about off road is better and that you are limitted on what you can do with a sport, I have yet to get stuck on sand, mud , snow with my sport its pulled me out of some interesting situations so I think you should be fine with a sport.

    I would say both are very nice, but I agree with LEX, if you want a double cab, I'd get the Longbed Sport. Thanks for your Military Service

    From your post you sound like a guy who likes to be out doors I woul go for the off road because the locker and A-Trac will help a lot getting you to your camping/hunting site. The guys with the sports are the first ones stuck on our runs even light stuff they have some trouble.

    I Completely disagree! I have had my 2006 DblCab 4x4 TRD Sport Longbed since new in 2006. I off-road a lot and the limited slip rear differential works great!
