Well, today was a day off for me. I got a call to go in for a mandatory meeting this morning. Head of HR was there, and a few other bigwigs. We all knew what was happening. Our plant will run until sometime late in 2009 and then shut down. At 53, my job prospects are not real good. Actually, I'll be 54 when the plant shuts down. I need to think hard before I make my next move. Thanks for letting me vent a little.

Chemical plant in Connecticut. We make, or made rigid foam insulation for the construction industry.

Good luck old. I hate to see that happen. Your not alone though, its wide spread in this economy. I'm sure you'll figure it out. You seem like a smart guy.<---(Based only on the fact that you bought a Tacoma)

Ooof. What timing?!? Hopefully by the time it really closes, the economy will be bouncing back. It is also a good time for you to relax. My father was in a similar situation and he took off for a year before going back to work. The way I see it, retirement would be great if you could do it before you got to be so old.

Best of luck, hope they stay running. BTY it was Dow Chemical, they've been in the news for a few weeks now. It wasn't a big surprise.

Sux OTG. And I know what you mean about prospects for us who have been doing what we do for so long. Places don't want to hire experience anymore, there's plenty of college kids willing to work for peanuts to get experience.

Best of luck getting back on your feet though.

Bummer, Sorry to hear it :(

I'm in heavy Construction and 2008 was the slowest year we have ever had.

Hope things pick up for you before the closing and you can get a few more years in.

Why wait for the plant to fully close....start planting that seed now. Take the time to dust off the resume and have at it.

Chris just may need an assistant.
