synthetic oil from the factory on the new 2.7's?

My understanding was that the new tacomas (I have the 2010 with 10,000 miles) came from the factory with 0w-20 fully synthetic oil. Took in to dealer for "free" service (2 years free service), and they would not replace with 0w-20 synthetic--well they would but I would have to pay the difference. They agreed that the 2011 came with the synthetic, since I showed them a Taco on the floor with a sticker on it advertising it, but my 2010 didn't since the oil fill cap shows both 0w-20 and 5w20. Anybody else run in to this? I finally agreed to buy 4 quarts of mobile 1 0w-20 synthetic, (about $28 at WalMart) come back and they topped it off with the other about 2 quarts of 0w-20 synthetic. They agreed that if I could prove that mine came with synthetic that they would service it next time with the same. Not sure how to do that, maybe contact Toyota. Oh well,.....It's done for this time, but don't feel real good about it.

 

Who told you it came with synthetic?...I've never heard of this. They must break them in (for the short period it is) and then switch them over....but still I find it hard to believe they come with synthetic.

 

The manual for my 2011 2.7 recommends synthetic oil every 5,000 miles. I assumed they used what they recommend. Guess I'll find out when I hit 5,000 miles.

 

Yep, the 2011 2.7L Tacoma's come with ow-20 synthetic, the Toyota manual calls for oil change intervals every 5 K.

my 2011 2.7L comes with Synthetic, 0w-20 on oil cap. I asked a Toyota tech before and they say it is syn.

 

Right, it wasn't on the regular pricing/info sticker on the side glass, but an add-on green and yellow sticker on the back window, at least at this Dealership.

 

My wife's new '11 Highlander came with synthetic but I am not going to wait 10K miles between changes. I don't think I could go past 5K like the 4 cylinders require.

The '11 Tacos are factory-filled with 0-20 synthetic, and the service manual specifies 0-20 synthetic every 5K.

I just had my (free) 5K service done. The work order says "5000 MILE SYNTHETIC VEHICLE" and shows they filled it with 6 qts of 0-20 Toyota synthetic oil.

 

2011 4x4 Access 2.7 came with synthetic and will be replaced with synthetic for free first 2 year and by me after that

 

I have a 2011 V-6 and I have read nothing about factory synthetic oil in the manuals...I have read them all. I just payed an extra $30 bucks for it when I crossed the 5k mark...

 

I asked what type of oil I have when I did my TSB, the technician looked at the cap and said, it has synthetic because of the 0w-20 marking.

But he also told me it needs oil change every 10K. But the manual calls for 5k.

 

my 2010 2.7L access cab has both OW-20 & 5W-20 on the oil cap. had my 5,000 MI service done , dealership smacked me with a 20$ CO-PAY for lack of a better word. i to have 2yrs free maintenance that`s really not so free!!!!!... iv`e heard of break-in oil now shipped with synthetic? who knows!..... ​

 

the 2011 2.7L are 0-20 and its every 5k as for the OP for the toyota care we have to put what it was shipped with and that can be looked up with your vin by the tech or service writer useing TIS or at least i think its TIS we have good writers that do that for us so i never have to do it

 

The V6 doesnt recommend the synthetic yet. Im sure they will soon. Here, I have some sitting by the broads dresser I will take a pic

I think your dealer is tring to be cheap. My dealer replaced mine with synthetic. It says on manual that you can use 5w-20 but to go back to 0w20 on next oil change.

 

If i was u i would call toyota about that co-pay thats horse shhit

 

Twenty bucks ain't bad for 6 QTs of synthetic. That's cheaper than I can find it on the base (and they usually don't have 0W-20).
