A/C Vent smell....

Ok,heres the deal. When running the A/C. If i open the vent to the outside. It smells moldy for while...? Ive never seen condensation dripping out from under the frame.....Is there a drain? Thanks in advance..

 

There is a drain. If the drain becomes clogged, then your ac will start to smell like mold. Either you can find the drain and blow it out with compressed air, or your mechanic/garage can do it. This happens to lots of vehicles.

 

so that's the smell. At least now I know what to have checked out on my next service visit.

 

Also, if you run your ac a lot on recirculate, be sure to change the vent setting to "fresh air" bafore you turn off the truck. This way, when your vents get condensation in them, it will have a place to go and will evaporate out of the vehicle. Otherwise, the condensation has nowhere to go and can get moldy. Then, check your ac drain. We see a lot of spider webs in them or road debris. It should be a small rubber tube below the vehicle on the front pass side. There are bombs you can set off in the truck that circulate thru the ac system and kill molds and fungi too. Also, check the cabin filter.

 

Check this... especially post 36. Use Lysol. Make sure AC is on, but NOT on recirc (you want it pulling air in from the outside vents). Vents are outside, center bottom of windshield. You only need to do a couple of sprays. Also pay attention to the posts that tell you to turn off the AC the last couple minutes before you stop. Helps dry out the coils.

^ yep, a few minutes before you reach your destination shut down the ac and just run fresh air through the system to dry out the a/c airways

 

Thanks for all the advice. I still havent ever seen codensation coming from the tube on the fire wall. Will blowing compressed air INTO the drain tube. Push the debris back up into the drainage bowl.

I'd really be surprised if your consensation tube was clogged given it's a 2010.
