Access cab owners:

Since the back "seats" are pretty much useless unless you have a kid under the age of 7, I was wondering something.

Do you keep the seats up all of the time? Do you keep the headrests down? Does anyone use the center console back there? Are you able to use that back space for anything, really?

I wish I could just tear everything all out and make it more useful for gear, dogs or groceries and stuff. Feels like a waste of space. Has anyone modified it back there?

 

I usually run with the seats up and headrests down. On the passenger side, I have a milk crate that fits right behind the passenger seat, in which I carry the things that would be in the trunk (or which will go in the bed box if/when I get one). And I have a tanker tool bag that is exactly the right size to fit on the storage lid on the passenger side with the seat up.

 

I run with the seats down and headrests down. I have stuff stored in the center console & under both seats back there. Would never tear it all out because every once in a while, I have a passenger to sit back there. It's not bad for 1 passenger to have all that room. Two makes it tighter for sure. I kind of wish the seats could be rotated so one person could sit sideways (prperly belted) and have all that legroom.

 

I too found the back seat worthless I took the console out and made spacers that sit on the floor to hold up a plywood sheet, it sits flat on top of the storage compartments. Every thing is loose so I just lift the plywood to get to the compartments I covered the plywood with carpet that matches the gray interior dog loves it. There really is a hell of a lot of space back there that goes to waste with the silly seats.

 

Seats up, headrests down unless I put friends back there. I use all the storage available, and have been able to fit many full-grown people without hassle or gripe, including someone on the large side. Also just came back from a road trip where I had a ton of stuff piled from floor to ceiling.

 

On my 06 there are no headrests and I always have the "seats" folded down. Just a flat floor that works great for a couple duffle bags and a cooler on road trips.

Just fold them down and its flat surface? Then put shit in accordingly.

 

I have 2 car seats back there But I took the headrests out, seats fit much better. Other than that I honestly don't see what everyone complains about. I can fit tons of stuff back there .. 2 kids, 2 bags, big bag between the seats ... or with no kids easily 10 bags of groceries.

Maybe I'm just use to the old school tacoma extra cabs ... those were tiny.

 

Seats up, headrests down. Haven't had a situation yet where the extra 2" of depth afforded by removing the seat cushion would have made a difference. There are various organizers that will fit this area.

The seats fold up and there is a raised storage under each seat. Then there is the center console - so it's not a flat surface at all. Just where one would put their feet.

You must be pretty creative to fit all that with two kids and car seats! And I came from a quad cab Dodge and when I put the seats up, there was plenty of room for my mountain bike without taking off the wheel plus a lot of camping gear.

Hey that's my Lexus!! I don't think that trunk organizer would fit that well because of the center console?

 

Headrests removed, center console removed and seats up. Lots of room for storage and still have the option to have people ride back there if need be. Removing the headrests was a motherfucker but you can search on this site and find out how to do it.

 

i always leave my seats folded down unless someone needs to ride back there which is rare

 

I keep my cargo net behind my seat and a Gorilla suit in the storage behind it (never know when you're gonna need a gorilla suit!)... I occasionally have a passenger in the back on the other side but I'm a tall dude so nobody is gonna sit comfortably behind me...

Also I plan on taking out the wall sub and putting in my own box kinda like the one previously stated in this thread

 

Headrests down, seats up, I did have a grown woman ride back there on a seat for about 5 miles didn't mind it at all,her hubby was in the front pass seat pushed way forward. I keep my truck tools in a Craftsman Sears Zip up bag on the floor left side and a Igloo playmate cooler behind the front passenger seat.

Didnt see what year you were I think 09 they changed the back seats but when I fold mine down its flat. Some guy on here built a shelf type deal so his dog could lay down. Covered it in shag material.

 

Groceries, or kids, not both. Altho sometimes I do feel like a magician with a top hat ... just keep pulling shit out heh.

 

The interior of the later model 2nd gens is useless. I had an '05 and the seats folded down making a flat area for storage. I absolutely hate the interior of my '11. Why Toyota would do this is beyond me. They screwed up a pretty good thing.

mine are all folded up and it leaves me enough room for a cooler a toolbox and some helmets.
