Kenwood 8120 new firmware fixes bluetooth

    I just thought I would pass on some information about updates for this unit. I have had nothing but trouble with my bluetooth pairing on my Palm Treo but there is a new firmware that you can update...version 1.7

    Check the kenwood website for the update.

    When I bought the unit 3 weeks ago the best they had was version 1.6 and the bluetooth sucked but now it seems to be working. For me atleast.

    download it from the website and copy to a flash drive (USB Stick). Once you have on the usb stick you have to plug it to the usb drive (hopefully you have one installed in the unit) and then go to the source menu, put unit on standby, go to setup, and software info towards the bottom. Then you should be able to "start" the version which will run the update from the usb stick.

    One word of advise is to copy all your files on the usb stick and have only the firmware update on the usb stick when doing the update. I was having problems running the update with all my docs and music so I deleted everything but the update.

    Sweet. Thanks! I don't have trouble with my bluetooth pairing, but people have complained about reception. However, I have problems with my bluetooth headset, so I'm not convinced this will help. But, I'm gonna try it!

    Yeah, I downloaded it, but got lazy last night and didn't update it.

    The site said something about overwritting all your settings on the Kenwood - did that happen to you?

    I had to reset my clock and reset my bluetooth settings on my phone but I dont think anything else changed. All my preset radio statios still work fine. Not sure about the EQ settings. Never thought of checking.

    Does the Bluetooth work well with the iPhone? I heard that it didn't, so I haven't bothered hooking up the phone accessories.

    Great thread and thanks for the info. I have the DDX812 which doesn't have the Nav.

    I get complaints from the other end, so I don't use it. I'm gonna try this firmware update to see if it corrects it, but my hopes aren't high since I have problems with bluetooth headsets as well...

    I updated the Bluetooth firmware on my 8120 and now people can here me on my iPhone! WOOHOO!

    And based on Silverback's recommendation, I've downloaded the TOPO 2008 maps (my first time using BitTorrent) and I'm copying them to the unit now. 11 minutes to go! :)
