Fire extinguisher on floor just in front of driver seat?

Was thinking of mounting an in cab fire extinguisher by bolting it horizontally to the little piece of slanted (carpet covered) metal that forms the front of the base of the drivers seat. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Good idea or bad?

Anyone know exactly what is behind there?

I tried sitting in the seat with and it seems like it would be totally out of the way for me driving. Also didn't seem to impair the seat forward/backward adjustment at all.

Mine is mounted in my bed.

I would mount it somewhere else personally....


My friend has his mounted behind his seat facing his door, bad move for him, I pulled the pin and held it until we got choked out of the truck hahahahaaahahaahahaha

 

My outlook, if there IS a fire in my cab, I'm still getting out..... Then i have to reach back into the cab to get my extinguisher.

So the bed is easily accessible and I can get to it rather quickly...

 

Bad idea. If it comes loose on accident (or IN an accident) in that location, it has a substantial risk of interfering with your control of the vehicle.

Yeah I am not too worried about speedy access, but it seems like whatever the situation you can get something quickly out of the cab whereas things in the bed are sometimes buried (under other things in the bed).

 

Agreed that those are the likely purposes. I am just concerned that there are occasions where in the bed it might be buried under other gear.

 

I have mine "mounted" under the drivers seat. Slides right in and fits nice and snug with no rattling.

 

I would also be worried about it discharging by accident in an accident. Chemicals stay in the back...

Agreed. Performance in an unrelated accident -- either it going off or breaking free -- seems like a good reason not to go this route.

 

I always appreciate ideas, but I am going to have to take a pass on that one. I like my drivers door pockets. Lots or crap in their already. And this doesn't solve the problem highlighted above.
