Odd ringing sound underneath truck...

Hey guys, not sure if there's a thread already started for this.... If so, a moderator can take this down.

I own a 2010 Prerunner Sport, and it when I drive over any type of terrain that causes vibration, (anything vs. smooth road) I tend to hear a "ringing" sound from beneath my truck. (It would be best described as loose change jingling in a pocket) Any thoughts to what this may be? Anything I may be able to tighten up underneath that would stop this?

I haven't gotten underneath the truck in an attempt to check what may be "loose" or could sound like pocket change when rattled.

I remember someone on here with kind of the same issue...ended up being a loose skid plate. Aslo maybe spare tire is loose and hitting something?

 

Just pulled skidplate off last week and Plasti-dipped it... Made sure that s.o.b. was tight. I'll check the spare tire... but it sounds like its coming from underneath the cab of the truck. Its extremely audible when my windows are down.. might try and catch it on film tomorrow... Almost wish i had a gopro camera to mount underneath...

 

I had a similar issue. Turned out a shield for gas tank was bent and rubbing on driveshaft.

LOL... I hit a massive puddle/pond going down the highway and after that I had the same issue. But it would only rub when I would accelerate. took me almost 2 days to figure it out.

 

And it did sound almost like a loose change

 

Just got out from underneath the truck, and all of the heat shields and the gas tank looked g2g... i tried to duplicate the sound using the side of my hand by hitting a few things, to no avail. I can't induce the amount of vibration to make it sound off... Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

 

Look just rear of both LCA's, there is a round body mount i believe, and it can hold rocks and other loose items from the road. Maybe something in that?

I am thinking I have the same issue...sounds to me like it's under the passenger side and slightly forward and I am guessing it's some sort of heat shield. Doesn't bother me enough to get under and look but if you find the problem let me know!

the only time i had the noise is when i had a shit ton of mud underneith <sp? my truck...

 

Mine rattles over bumps. Apparently it's brake rattle from the front brakes. It stops as soon as I touch the brakes. I've tried everything to resolve it and can't.

 

Now that i think about it. After a few trips wheeling i started to get a strange sound that seemed to come from the driver side front end and it almost sounded like something was loose. i was a bit concerned that my wheel was gonna fall off or something. But anyway when I put my windows down to listen the sound would go away and I was lost. Later i found out it was my driver side mirror. There was some dirt inside making the noise.

 

does the noise get faster when you rev the truck higher? does it go faster or slower if you change speed? or is it always the same jingle no matter what?

 

I started hearing this after toyota replaced my tranny.. I was kinda worried and thinking of taking it in again.. but I am glad to see this thread with multiple people (auto tranny included) having the issue.

 

Same jingle no matter what, and only noticeable at low speeds because of other road noises. It doesn't get louder with engine rev.

I'll get back underneath and poke around after i get off of work... Thanks for all of the other suggestions fellas!

 

I have had the same ring forever. it generally happens when keeping a constant speed/rpm. (doesn't matter what speed or rpm). but goes away on harder acceleration and breaking. I think it is tranny related but not certain.
