Need suggestions for Body Lift

First off I pretty much have my mind made up that I'm going with a body lift and yes I've been here long enough to know that alot of you do not recommend them but I'm going for a little extra height for looks more than anything.
I have a 2004 Regular cab 5-lug and have been looking at 4Crawlers 1.5/2" Body lifts http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/ToyotaTacoma.shtml#Tacoma and need some advice/ truth. My first question is whether or not the PreRunner/ 4wd body lift kit will work for a 5-lug? The cab is the same and the body mounts shouldn't be different should they?
I have have virtually no experience with this stuff and I wanted to go with the 1.5/2" BL because I've heard you don't have to modify as many things (like fuel fill hose, etc.). Is it practical for me to think I could crawl under my truck and be able to find and replace everything that I would need to install this kit or should I get a quote from a shop to do it. I think I could do most of the actual body lift but the steering extension, shifter extension and front end have me worried. Getting halfway through and finding out I don't have the tools or the knowledge to do this is not an option. So, what tools do I need to do this and is it pretty much common sense if you have the instructions they give you?

 

Check out the ToyTec 2" kit...thats the one I'm about to get and they are great quality...great price too!!

 

My trucks a 5-lug so my only cheaper options are spacers, BL, and spindles. As far as I know none of the ToyTec kits work on my truck since it doesnt have struts

My main question is will the kit fit since my trucks a 5-lug? The body mounts should be the same and the steering extension and shifter extension should be compatible regardless of the suspension under the body right?

 

No body lifts. Period

 

Somebody doesn't know how to read. You're not gonna convince me not to try it especially without a specific reason. Apparently everybody's got a story about somebody who had a body lift and something happened. The only thing I care about at this point is whether or not it will fit. If it will it's going on the truck. Period.

 

I was just saying. But to be on a serious note, I have very little experience about body lifts. I know alot more about the suspension lifts, etc. I I wasn't trying to be a jerk either about that.

Sometimes the only reason the body lift says its for a 4x4 is because it comes with the 4x4 shifter extension or somethin. Like you said the body mounts are all the same and with only 2'' of lift you won't have to worry about fuel fill hose, battery cables, etc... The rear bumper should come with brackets for a 2'' lift along with the front. A 3'' body lift won't come with rear bumper brackets because the stock brackets can be turned upside down and raise the bumper 3''. Just take your time jacking up the cab and continually check under the hood for stretching cables and such. Do it 1 side at a time and dont take the bolts completely out untill you are ready to lift that side up. Use all the washers and loc-tite also... I had a 3'' body lift on my 98 reg cab 4x4 for 5 years and never had any troubles with it (even after jumping dunes on the beach and serious mud bogging). On my 04 Im going with the bilstein 5100s just to level it out and I dont need big mud tires on it.

FINALLY!!! This is the info I've been looking for!! I know you other guys aren't trying to be jerks but you gotta understand that my truck sits so low I'm trying to get it to sit the same height as a stock PreRunner. I really don't have too many lift options that aren't gonna cost me a ton of money in parts and labor.

 

if your going to get a body lift why not just go al the way and get a 3inch lift.

I had a body lift there junk! and a waste of time. My steering extension broke lost control of the truck. not a very good experience. also the cab ended up shifting on the pucks.. and the Speedo cable snapped...

Because I don't want to replace my tires. I just put new 235/75's on it a few months ago and I'm thinking that 3" would make them look too small. I saw a stock PreRunner that looks exactly like my 5-lug running 245/70's so I'm thinking with 2" body lift the 235's will still look ok. and from what I've heard you don't have to extend the fuel filler hose and some other things if you go 2" instead of 3".

 

I went to a couple of off road shops to see about a body lift for my taco but they all told me that they don't make them for the 5 lug, and that my only options are the spacer lift and the spindles unfortunately

 

So do we kno if OP actually went for the BL since this is an old thread? Doesn't say he did in his description...

 

Thats a negative ghostrider. Never got around to it and I'm throwing around the idea of replacing my spacers with spindles. I've got in too many wrecks since I've got the truck to think a bodylift is a good idea.
