diesel trucks

ive owned a few diesels in my days, and i got outta the game cause of the prices of fuel, our company on the other hand is looking to get 1 or 2 new diesels for towing trailers. now the only bad thing is i know absolutely nothing about the new diesels, anyone know who has a new one and what kinda luck have they had with them

 

i don't know anything about diesels but my boyfriend and 3 or 4 of his friends have dodge cummins, all different years, and they haven't had any trouble with them. there is a guy on his forum that seriously has over 1 million miles on it and its still going strong...

 

We have a new Dodge with the 6.7 cummins at work, and it is a pretty nice truck. Tons of power, all new interior that I think is much nicer. However they all have a lot of computer controlled systems, and are very complicated compared to there older siblings. That being said reliability is always a top design for a diesel truck and I think that the new diesels will prove to be just as reliable as the older ones. They do however get terrible fuel economy as compared to the older non emission control trucks.

 

yeah ive heard a lot about the new 6.7s, some good some bad. i was a victim of the 6.0s and i dont want that again. ive been kinda thinking about the duramax

 

had an 03 F-350 at my old job -- engine ran great, but the truck kept falling apart...

 

I would be weary about the new Ford 6.7, I'm sure they've fixed the problems with the early 6.0's, most of the problem was on the assembly line from what I understand, but the twin turbo setup scares me. The new Duramax is basically unchanged from previous models other then more power and emissions control, ie DPF. IMO you can't beat the Allison, they make BIG transmissions and have been doing so for a long time.

 

My brother drives a Duramax for the boat his works and loves it, and the Allison tranny is the BOMB he says.
One of our clients just bought 12 new Ford F series, from 250 to 550 and the workers have nothing but good to say.
I don't know anybody who owns the Cummins, but they are all over the road, so I don't think you really could go wrong, barring a lemon.

 

any idea what kinda mpg's the ford and duramax are getting

 

I know about 5 or 6 guys with new cummins.... they all love them.

 

i like the cummins as well, big fan of the simple 12 valve, but heard a lot of people saying they get terrible fuel mileage

 

my bf's cummins gets about what our trucks get

 

same with my buddies!!!! that is such BS!!

 

at least our gas is cheaper and tanks aren't 32 gallons i couldn't afford that shit

 

the new 6.7's are getting 18-20mpg? pretty good considering all the new emmisions, for the past 2 years ive always heard people getting 13-15 hwy

 

I've seen 22mpg, with a 24 valve cummins, long box crew cab. That was just what the read out on the truck said.

Dodge Cummins FTW!!!!! Yeah tons of those guys on average get 19-20 mpg

 

actually i'm not sure about the 6.7, my boyfriend has the 5.9
