    So the wife's B-day is coming up. Daughter wants to get mom an E-book reader. I know crap about em, so I am asking what you folks know and would recommend. I do want to get her one with WI-FI, but dont want to spend too much..maybe $200.00 max.

    I have a kindle and an ipad... and I'm selling the ipad (considerably more than $200).

    Here is the latest version of the kindle: I'm buying one for my sister for her birthday.

    The 3g/wifi version is $189 and the wifi only one is $139, I would highly recommend either. I have had my kindle for a year, it helped me survive 8 months in American Samoa with nothing else to do but work and read (I did drink quite a bit also).

    i'd stick with kindle - but the reviews posted are good. pricing on them is nice now.

    X2. Mom has a Nook, and swears by it. Much better than the Sony, and Kindle (IMHO) that I gathered when I used them side by side. I think the nook is below $200 now, and seems to have pretty good support.

    after using them, i cannot imagine going back to lugging a book around. i can search and buy a book anywhere i have wifi or cell service - right then and there. i use the kindle reader on my smartphone -

    regarding the barnes and noble reader... keep in mind their days of being in business may be limited...

    I have a first gen Amazon Kindle. It's great. It's very easy to read even in bright sunlight. You'll need a light for night reading though.

    The new ones are even nicer (lighter) and much cheaper ($139 for wi-fi only). The wi-fi only version would be acceptable unless you need to download a book when you're not near a wi-fi connection (that probably wouldn't be very often).

    Bought a nook for my love. $139. without 3G. Loves it. Biggest factor was the ability to download from local library formats. Kindle doesn't do it from what I researched. Was the selling point for me. What if I don't want to keep buying books from Amazon? I can check them out from the library digitally. My take.

    My wife and son got me a nookColor for Fathers day. Anyone found any nifty things to do with them? I'm pondering rooting it or setting up a bootable Android SD card. I'm pretty impressed with the offerings for apps being that it's a "reader" not a full tablet. NO where near the App Store or Android Market...but it's a good start.

    got a Nook and love it. Remember, a lot of books past their copywright date are free and there's a lot of things like historical texts which arent available unless you work at a university library or something. Google put together a library project and made them all digital.
