Yeah I've found the same thing. I haven't skied much but I have wakeboarded a lot and taught people also, and it's all about just "popping" up and getting the board turned. It's easy to try to pull yourself up but you really gotta let the boat do most of the work. You're right, definiitely more about technique

mine are old, and i'm sure cheap, but they're still fun

i did get to ride my friend's custom made carbon fiber slalom ski once which was a trip. she's a junior pro skier though, so my ass was promptly kicked after what i thought was a badass ride

 

That's what I figured, that I'd have just as much fun on them.

 

teaching method that's worked best for me is to have people put the board on while on land, sit down as if in the water, and pull them up by hand. tell them is the same as having a friend help you off of the ground, but you have a board on you. or even say it's like getting up out of a chair. once you're up, the fins tend to track and naturally turn you the way you need to go. i also purchased a couple how to videos on wakeboarding that i show them beforehand if i have time. got one that is about getting up and turning, and another that teaches tricks.

 

That's a good idea, I've never thought of that. Most of the people I've taught get the hang of it after a few times but there's some that don't get the hang of it right away. I'll try that next time. The videos are a good idea too. I guess I've made people learn the hard way haha. I used to wakeboard a whole lot and haven't much in the past couple years. Started surfing and other stuff more. I really regret it though cause I've definitely lost a lot of what I used to be able to do.

 

i hear ya. i surf year round in melbourne, but when i get back to VA for the summer, my little brother's learned all this new stuff behind the boat....big bro always has some tricks (that was a pun) up his sleves though

 

Colton, last year for Spring Break I went on a cruise to the same places as you. We took the Carnival Legend. I liked everything but Belize. Belize was a total shit hole with trash all over the place once you got out of the port and into the country side. Funny thing, we went on a cruise, came back and sold my dad's Escape and less than a week later I was holding the keys to my truck

that's awesome. i've wanted to get into the scale crawling scene ever since i sold my nitro truck, but they're soooooo expensive.

 

Haha yeah can't let the little bro get ahead of you, gotta keep him in his place somehow Yeah I do a lot of surfing in St. Augustine. You ever take a surfboard behind the boat? It's fun to get right behind the boat and play in that wake

 

i like it the bumpe needs to be closer to the truck some how because it hit the obsticles before the wheels so gotta find out how to set that up and of coars the body hangs out past the rear to much also

 

i have an actual wake surfer and line for it, but our boat doesn't put up quite a strong enough wake at low speed for that, so you can't let go of the line and last ore than abotu 5 seconds. the surf board is fun though. we're on our yearly beach trip to north carolina right now actually. trailered the boat down and will be going out tuesday. the surboard will be coming along
might take the kayak too and see how that does behind the boat

 

ah, forgot to mention, ordered sliders 2 days ago. weld-on, DOM, With kickouts. should be waiting at my friends house when i get back home.
