Does anyone here have one of the Contour sports cams? I am really curious to see how they do in low light situations. I have a go pro and went caving over the weekend. Had a LED headlight on that pretty much lit the whole cave in front of me and the videos did not come out well at all.

If you have a go pro, do you have any tips on how to get the light sensitivity better? The headlight is pretty bright to begin with so I don't think I can get much brighter.

Yup, have one and I think it's a better camera than the GoPro. Lemme see if I can find some night footage, otherwise I'll do a test tonight for you. Any requests?

thanks! im really just looking to see how well it will do in a pitch black environment with nothing more than a led flashlight to light the way. I am planning on doing some more caving type scenarios.

Ah! It'll really come down to two things, then vs the GoPro. That's the chip it uses and the aperture. I don't know either, but will get some footage tonight w/ both a headlight and my flashlight. I wouldn't expect amazing things with either, but we'll see.

Holy sh*t! You're gonna flip when you see this. Flashlight is better than headlamp, and both are on spot. Am gonna make another with a flood and edit them together. Gimme a bit...

Alright, dude, here goes. Link to the video: http://youtu.be/FT7WcSZQGb8

I filmed pitch black, led flashlight (spot), headlamp (spot), flashlight (flood), headlamp (flood). You'll see two dots which are the leveling lasers. It was recorded in 1080p so is best viewed like that. Also, the video has been compressed numerous times from it's original recorded form - still looks good on YouTube, but is a bit less clear and more "blocky" than what it actually is.

Here's how easy it is to change settings with only a few clicks:

Without getting into detail, the Contour is a better camera & system, but GoPro had better marketing in the beginning (still does!). :D

    Enjoy!

thanks a ton Mike! The Contour still has a better picture with the headlamp than my go pro got. I got this tiny little speck of with it. was that a mag light you used for the flashlight/flood?

No worries, Aaron. I was curious to see how it would do, too.

Yes, it's a 2 D-cell Maglite with an LED. Looks like in between spot and flood gives the best picture.
