best moderate lift for 2nd gen reg cabs

2009 Tacoma 4X4 2.7l 4 banger. I've been researching lifts forever and this will be my last post bfore i buy it! I'm looking into the 5100' from downsouth, then upgrading from 265/70/17's to 275/75/17's. Once i made a little more cash im gonna buy the Toytec 3" lift from toytec. Any opinions/comments on the lift will be appreciated and id like to see your setups too. so bottom line; whats your favorite moderate lift for the regular cab? Here she sits now; stock suspension

I vote for the 5100's as the best low budget lift. And, these shocks are a nice upgrade as well.

Why are you going to purchase the 5100s to only change them out to a toytec lift? Thats a waste of money. Just save up until you can buy what you really want.

 

im going to buy the 3" toytec lift; it comes with coilovers, spacers and 2" AAL's. but at the same time im buying the 5100s

 

2wd only... spindles!!

 

If you really want to lift now and still upgrade later, you are probably best off going 5100's first and then getting the Toytec front coil over kit and purchase add a leafs. That way you can still use the 5100's.

I'm not sure 275/75R17 is a tire size that exists.

Your stock size was either

245/75R16

Or

265/70R16

Or

265/65R17

While 265/70R17 is an oversize 32" tire.

From there, you could go to 275/70R17 or 285/70R17 assuming you're running a 17" rim.

 

i vote ome for lift if you offroad alot. 5100s are good too but i think they dont handle the weight of offroad equipment like bumpers/winch as good as having a stiffer spring rate. unless you get 5100s set at 0 with ome coils

 

I agree, if an aftermarket bumper/winch combo are in your future, you will need springs at that point, and if a 3" lift is what your after as well, straight to the OME might be the better option for up front. I like the idea of using the 5100's set lower with an upgraded spring, so maybe all you will need to do then is change out the springs when you do the bumper/winch upgrade down the road if you start now with just the 5100's. Do some research, there are some who claim to have had issues with fitment with the OME springs and the 5100's. The OME springs were designed to fit with thier own shock line. Good products, proven around the world... Someone may chime in on this fitment issue...

ithink 885s are good for a reg cab even with a bumper and winch. Especk has a full 3" of lift with the 885s and he has a bumper and winch on his reg cab

 

so i have 5100s all around right now, i know i can use them in the front with the toytec coils, but will the 2.5 ome springs in the rear be too much lift for the 5100s back there?

 

You are correct , I somehow missed the reg cab part
