Warped rotors...Any ideas?

Had rotors replaced in December-ish last year. They were warped. They are warped again. I wasn't the owner for the first warping so I don't think it is driving related. Any ideas?

 

well did you change the pads when you put in the new rotors?
you should have, otherwise old pads are just eating up the new rotors...

 

Usually Pad fade due to improper break in. Read the following article on "warped" rotors.

Replace the pads and have the rotors turned. Once you have the new stuff installed. Head out to an empty country road (if you can) or somewhere else that is safe. Get up to about 50Mph and then brake hard to about 20. Not hard enough to lock the brakes or kick in the ABS. Then drive for a couple minutes and repeat. do this 5-6 times. You shouldn't have any more issues after that.

I doubt the rotors are warped... most likely they have uneven pad deposits from bad pads or improper bedding-in the pads.

Make sure you use a torque wrench on your lugs.

Mine was making the warpie feelings coming to a stop. So the other day went out to quiet stretch of road and got it up to 60 mph a couple of times and hit my brakes hard. That cured it.

 

Don't stand on the brakes at stop lights and you won't warp em. All I can say, you are in control of the braking action, also, don't ride the brakes into a stop. I've owned multiple vehicles and NEVER had warped rotors.


Now if I could just teach this to my wife, we'd be golden!

Most people dont know that brake pads need to be bedded in, and I have never heard of a brake place/shop that does it for you. most people just jump right in and drive off and never look back until their rotors are "warped" again in a few months.

 

If your truck has drum brakes in the rear, it is important to make sure they are adjusted up correctly. The auto adjusters never really work that well. If they are not properly adjusted, then the fronts are left doing all of the stopping, which can lead to warped rotors.
