yup, maybe a larger rear end and rear disc brakes like the new 4runner as well

Don't get me wrong, rear discs are nice... but I am fine with drums really. Discs just wear out a lot faster and cost more to replace once they do. Always been a fan of a good set of rear drums (especially on trucks).

If you go to t4r.org and look at the complaints about the new 4runner brakes you might not be as impressed by those rear discs. I'd prefer they stick with drums on the rear.

I would prefer they update the 4.0 with the technology they already have in the 4runner and FJ. In my opinion everything else would be nice, but this would be an important and needed upgrade.

I haven't noticed any complaints on there. I also drive a 4runner a lot and I feel that the breaks on them are much better.

With articles and word of mouth stating te 2012 info should be released to the public in "Fall" of 2011, my assumption is Aug or Sept. With talk on this forum abou a select 100 people to see it by the end of July makes me wonder where and how it would be released. If the 2012 4Runner was displayed at a state fair in Texas, the new Prius was displayed in multiple Auto shows, If there is a new Taco it will probably be in some auto show in the fall...wouldn't you think?

State Fair of Texas Auto Show Public Dates: 09/30/11 - 10/23/11

Orange County International Auto Show September 22–25, 2011

Maybe????? I guess time will tell, but I have been spending way too much time looking.

I called and they gave me a number to call...the toyota helpline. I asked about the 4.0 dual VVTi thats in the 4Runner and FJ. I was placed on hold and then told that they do not have any information on future vehicles and sent to the press room website which isn't very helpful. http://pressroom.toyota.com/

if someone else can find out that would be awesome!

Im sure it will see some re-styling and minor mechanical updates based on the current platform but Im really hoping they keep the 4 cylinder engine as an option hopefully with increased HP and fuel effeicency (Dual VVTi) I think there would be a strong market for a good 4 banger 4x4 pick up.

According to this build schedule from a fleet management company the availability for 2012 Tacoma's isn't until Dec./Jan.:
    http://www.donlen.com/buildstart-toyota.aspx

I was really hoping to purchase a new '12 Tacoma in early fall. Does anyone know if the fleets get the new vehicles much later than consumers? I don't want to wait until Dec./Jan. to buy a new truck, and I'm holding out for the 2012's.

Dealer said they were told march of 2012 before they showed up if there was not a delay.I think the 2012 will be just like the 2011 and late spring or early summer 2012 the redesign will show up as a 2013.I went ahead and got a 2011 and plan to trade for a 2013 or 2014 redesign.I would have waited and not got the 2011 but I got tired of driving a big monster sized full size truck.I was afraid in a couple years if gas got much higher the value of a full size truck would not be good.I think the redesign will make the truck near what a full truck was in the 80s whick was a decent size truck.

I don't think local dealers are the most reliable source. I've had some tell me they were expected in Aug-Sep too. I don't know about the Fleet and supplier web sites, I'm not buying a fleet of work trucks, I'm buying a DCLB TRD Sport...Thats two different consumers for two different purpouses. Still, I will believe it all when I see it, but can't stop reading the speculation. I'm sure that if I don't find the info somewhere on the internet, I will find it here in this thread.

When I called the two I did, I said immediately that I was referred to them by the customer hotline in regards to information on the 2012 tacoma. Worked like a charm.

I went to an ama motocross race saturday and they had a toyota representative there standing in front of a new 11 tacoma. I asked him about the 12 and he said he heard redesign but hasn't seen drawings. He said they are very tight lipped about it....so worthless once again.

    around the world
    that list is very accurate
my guess is redesign is actually a 2013 model showing up late next july...

common sense would tell me they would not start production in Texas facility only for one year model(2011) and having to quickly switch and adapt to new redesign.
it would make sense to do a 2 year run, another hint would be the grille cosmetic change and Oct-Nov gauges change. if it was only a one year (2011) they would not have done those at all. 2 years run yes.

as far as the new design i hope they do this: which probably won't happen...:
1). redesign the 4 runner headlights and tailights to get rid of the sitcking out blinkers (FUGLY) can't they just make them smooth corner?
2). stop cheapening out on sheetmetal and make it thicker in the doors, as well as sound deadening (one 4 inch piece in the door is a joke) all those that looked inside the doors know what i'm talking about lol
3). keep gauges simple don't go the 4runner route not everyone is a 15yo kid...
4). 4 leaf back hopefully they learned...
5). new vvti kind of a given...
6). long whip antenna, should be banned...
7). sport mode auto tranny, not the D anemic shifting for gas saving...
8). even if it's 4runner headlights, projectors would be nice...

    that's it...:D

Does it make sense to add Entune to the 2012 Tacoma for one year of production then have a redesign in 2013?

Several Auto magazines have quoted a Toyota rep. that the Pruis V, the Camry and the Tacoma will have Entune by the end of the year.

I love this thread! Fourteen pages and 277 posts and no one has any firm answer to the OP's question. I think I'll read it over from the beginning...

going to have 4.0 out of 4Runners. Also what I just found out is that the interior will be changed a bit. It might might have a new dash.

Until we see a reliable source like legit spy shots of a test mule or an article from Motor Trend anouncing the 2012 debut at whatever car show, I think we are all just guessing blanks here. We will all know when its there.
