the only problem with costa mirror lenses is that they only offer them in glass.. im personally a fan of the 580 polycarbonate lenses. They dont break when you drop them ahah.

also living in florida I see mirror lenses everywhere i go...so i like to be different ahah

Looking at picking up a pair of costa del mar sunglasses this weekend, my biggest concern is being on the boat with them. Anyone on here know how they react to salt water? Get alot of splashes over the bow and with a few sunglasses iv had they get spotty and blury then trash. I love the fit of costa del mar's far better then any other companys but I need something that wont get ruined if wet..

Costas were designed for water use. Salt water will not ruin them if you care for them properly.

If they get salt spots use FRESH water and a clean cloth to clean them. You must do this to get the abrasive salt off the lenses. Also if they get really soaked some water to clean out the hinges helps as well.

Keep a designated sunglasses cloth on the boat. Keep it dry and out of the elements. If your glasses get wet and you dont mind the salt taste, give them a good lick down and then wipe dry, if not pour some fresh water over them then wipe dry.

They will last a good long time, and if im not mistaken the films used are between two lenses, but dont quote me on that...

Also keep in mind lense selection.

There is the 400 series, the 580ps and the 580,

580 series has better clarity than the 400s, however if you are lookin for mirrored lenses you can only get the 580 glass lense, not the 580p or polycarbonate, the glass lenses will be heavier and they will break if you drop them.

after wearing oakleys forever i got a pair of maui jim sunglasses. i may not go back because they are so lightweight that other sunglasses feel awful.

Awesome, thanks for the info! I dont know shit about sunglasses, I have no problem getting a decent pair and taking care of them if I know they are worth it.

I will keep a cloth and case on the boat for when not in use, dont mind the salt water taste if need be to clean them either.

Dont believe iv ever dropped sunglasses (knock on wood), any real difference in clarity between the 580 and the 580ps? I dont mind the glass being heavier but if the clarity isnt as good I wont go with the mirrored.

It is claimed that the 580 glass lense is more clear than the polycarbonate, honestly I cant really tell much of a difference, other than weight.

I used to wear mirrored glasses but everbody i know wears them so I enjoy being different, therefore I can get away with not having glass lenses.

It is all a personal preference, I also do some shooting with my glasses so I like having the slight impact resistance that comes with the polycarb lenses.

Gotcha, ok well im gonna goto a dealer that sells them this weekend and ill see what they have in stock. Im not stuck on the glass idea but not opposed to it either, if they have the harpoons in a black frame with black or blue lense in 580/580p ill prob end up with them. If not ill find the best deal online now that I know more about it.

    +1 for the help

    No problem!

I have looked on there but like I said I get lost while seeing so many options so I went to a store and tried on a few and found the frames I liked, and now researching if they will work for my needs and from what you said aswell as a few other people, they will work just fine.

I vote M frames only because the other one looks like it has a web cam in the center of the frame.

Well also looks like it has stick on spoilers or those winglet things Stunnas put on their helmets.
