Is my trailer ball welded in?

    I bought an 05 tacoma last week and the ball thing was stuck in there. the pin is missing. I wanted to remove it, but can't. Tried pounding it with a sledge and nothing.
    So I decided to look at the back and found this.

    Is that welded on at that joint? It sure looks like it to me. If it is, how the heck do I get it out without a blowtorch?

    Wow, that is unbelievable. Why would anybody do this???
    The more I read, the more I am convinced about buying new, taking care of it (myself, that is) and be happy. :)

    That, to me, looks like just the receiver welded to the frame of the hitch

    judging by the rust though, i'd bet that the ball is just rusted into the receiver

    doubt its welded, you are in IL, meaning rust and other crap buildup. doubt its selded. get a grinder, some PM and a strong swinging arm. BUT, you might wanna consider a new bumper.

    Make friends with someone who has a good air hammer, it's just rusted in. If you do tow anything, be absolutely sure you put a pin in there first.:cool:

    OP, the "ball thing" is your receiver. I bet you don't have a hitch inserted into the receiver, which is why there is no pin. Hitting the receiver with a hammer might be fun, but it's not doing your truck or tools any favors.
