Anybody got an idea on how to mount a flag pole in the bed of our trucks?

I would like to do it on Memorial Day, the 4th, ect. And it would need to be able to withstand 65MPH speeds, which for that reason I have ruled out most of the hitch mounts.

I'm guessing that a flagpole would present the same problem as the roll bars that I so desperately want in terms of not working with the composite bed. What about something like jhodge's bar set up with the flagpole bolted up through the bottom of the bed rail closer to the cab where you could brace it somehow against the cab? You'd have to trim a hole through the rail liner, but hodge did that with no problem. I'm guessing here so feel free to tell me it's not what you're looking for....

can you find a way to secure the pole to the bed cleats and the rear d-rings??? drill a hole in the bottom of the flag pole, then tie the bottom to the d-ring with some good rope......or piece of chain, then tie the pole to the cleat. then you can run some more rope to the other cleats on the other side and to the other rear d-ring. should work pretty good, and it aint gonna go anywhere, even running down the interstate!!

    haha...this is fun

ive built (sort of but its in need of tweaking) something to hold a flag pole in my truck bed

I used 2x4s and a normal flag pole mount and some rope
    DSC02576_a5d1ae83ff70fb85fe423674e8e4004d2cacddbb.jpg
    DSC02578_57e35288bbaf29fe211ce238f348a23ca8d6a464.jpg

i mounted the bracket on the 2x4s which are cut to length to prevent them from moving around in the bed...the rope is tucked into the tool box and holds the pole up kind of high

the mount itself and the pole both hold up to the speeds youre looking for...however the flag itself doesnt seem to...

im probably going to take the bracket off the 2x4 cross and cut some more lumber into sort of a pyramid shape and drill into it with a hole saw just big enough for the pole to slide into

attached is a crappy paint sketch...black is the current 2x4s...red are what id be adding

Excellent idea, Tiger! Don't be surprised if you see another tacoma with the same flag mount in ATL on Aug 30... but with a Crimson flag!

I'm thinking a piece of plywood with some sort of pole mount bolted to if you have extra D-rings. Then just cross some ratchet straps from the extra D-rings to the stock ones to hold the plywood down.

I was thinking that extra D-rings would be a good idea, especially for those of us without tool boxes to hold the front of the brace down. Do you think plywood would hold up to the force created by the drag on the flag at 65mph? I can imagine the bolts just ripping out of plywood when you started driving fast.

I load a riding lawn mower up a ramp made from 3/4" plywood. So 3/4 or 5/8, and large backing washers should be fine. Heck, I'd be more worried about a plastic pole mount breaking.

I have a buddy that rides with his POW flag in his truck but not sure how he got it in. I know he fabed a plate and used some exhisting bolt holes, followed by some cables to keep up right and visible at all times, he just has to adjust the tension on it evey now and again.

I couldn't get in touch with him, he is serving in the marines god knows where right now.

you could redneck it up with a a piece of PVC pipe and put the flag pole in it in a 5 gallon bucket of concrete then just use a bungee cord to keep it stable and BAMMM!!! flag holder!
