Followed the instructions and I was able to turn off the chime on my buddies '09. Wouldn't work on my '11 with the new gauges...

weird. just bought mine about a month ago and it worked
like a charm first time. the blinking light is still there but I think
cutting the wire will fix that.

    same truck.

    I followed this:

-KEEP YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKES THROUGH ENTIRE PROCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!
-get in truck and shut the door.
-turn key on and get your insterment panel on ODO and turn key off.
-turn key back on, as soon as u do that press reset knob.
-hold reset knob for 12_15 seconds and fasten seat belt.
-xxxx miles should turn to b_on.
-release and press one time, it should say b_off.
-wait for it to reset back to miles and turn key off.

Hello. First time poster and Tacoma owner. I bought a 2011 Tacoma TRD Sport last week and LOVE it.

I wear my seatbelt so please no lectures on how safe and wonderful they are, but sometimes I like to take it off for the last mile before the house or sometimes I am just driving across a work site. The chime is really annoying and I don't need a baby sitter telling me to put it on.

That being said, I have scoured the Internet looking for ways to disable it in the 2011 Tacoma and the only "right" way is through the dealership. Aside from the fact that they will probably say no (this is MA after all), I did not want to pay $50 to have it done. So I took matters into my own hands.

If you look at the belt receiving end, there is a gray plastic piece attached to a black metal anchor that goes down the side and it bolted to the seat. Just below the gray plastic, there is a small hole in the black metal. Stick a small screwdriver in the hole and that will release the bottom portion of the plastic which is a electric plug with 2 wires going into it. This is the seatbelt sensor. It is quite the funky design for what seems like a simple task.

From there, you can get creative. You can snip wires and jump them (did not try this). Maybe solder a couple points together? Whatever. What I did was took 2 small strips of electrical tape and taped down the white plastic piece. You will know what I am talking about when you look at it. Basically it is taped in the position it would be in if the seatbelt was inserted. I then tucked the plug down beside the seat and out of site. Voila! No more chime and no more blinking seatbelt light. If I ever decide to sell the truck, it is very easily undone. Happy Taco owner!!

So went to dealership and even though California says u can disable the passenger side one 2dealerships in san diego won't do it as per their safety regulations. They said that if a kid ends up in front seat then they could b held liable

The little hole is on the seat side, not the center console side. Put your face on the seat and look at the side of the receiver. You will see it. Once you get the plug unplugged, you can give it a little pull about 2" to make it easier to work on. There is some slack in the wire.

Also if you ever disconnect your battery cable, you will have to redo this. I recently had to disconnect the battery cable on a radio install. Now the stupid chime is back.

Has this ever really worked for a 2011. I tried many times with no success.

How do you get past the airbag to the melted sand buffet?

05 didn't have seatbelt chime so gonna try disabling it on the 08. It acts crazy. Why the fuck does it beep when no one is even in the passenger seat? I checked the stuff under the seat and all is plugged in. Annoying stuff.

It seems this works on the old 2011's but not the ones with the new white gauges. We havent had anyone with the white gauges get this to work.

I wondered the same thing until I realized I had a bag sitting on the passenger seat that weighed enough for it to think it was a person. Maybe that's the problem? :notsure:

Just went out at lunch and did this. Procedure seemed to work. I'll see on the way home. Didn't drive it, just went in parking lot and got it to say b-off then miles came back and turned off key. Hoping for silencio.........

GatorComa- it has been doing this with nothing in the seat. Had to fasten belt on that side just to shut it up and make light quit blinking. Only thing I can think of is that it thinks the wet okole seat cover is an actual passenger at this point. But the seat cover doesn't make the airbag light say ON like it does when someone is in the seat. Passenger side airbag says OFF on the dash while the seat belt is chiming away. Key thing is set on auto for airbag. If it is set to OFF then it stays like that with me in the seat.
