So like the title says, i got stuck in my truck for about 5-10 minutes do to a big as dog. So i just got home about 20 minutes ago with my gf. As I pull into the drive way, open the garage and step out of the driver side and close the door, I see a big as pit bull staring in front of me near my garage. Scared as shit I run back and hop into the back seat while my gf in the passenger seat still. The pit bull just minded his business going in my garage and car back and forth, putting his paws on the side of my car trying to peek in. I just hope he didnt scratch it to bad :(. Im gonna check in the morning when there is light. So we spent about 5-10 minutes stuck in the truck till we saw the pit bull walk 2 houses down, then we both bolted into the garage. On top of that i left the car keys in the car because I was in a rush. The pitt bull came back and had to wait for him to leave again to get the keys. What a night.

aww, you should have invited him in for some hot dogs, he just wanted to be scratched behind the ears.

Are you afraid of dogs in general?

He doesn't sound like he was being aggressive. I have (or had) a fear of pit bulls due to their reputation until my daughter started dating a guy that has one. Honestly, this dog is sweet as pie. I guess it's how the dog is raised. Still, there is always a slight uneasiness about them on most peoples part because they were bred to be fighters. I'm not sure I would have waited in the truck for him to leave, but maybe you could read something into his "body language". In any event, I guess its better to be safe than sorry.

Yeah really, was it foaming at the mouth and breathing heavy? Was he covered in blood and dragging around a human leg? If it was "just" a dog, doing what dogs do, why would you be weary of it? Because of the make and model? :D Now, If you came home and saw a lion or a polar bear or something then I could understand....

Sounds like when I went to the VPs house to drop off my truck and pick up a rig for work. Who greets me when I step out of the truck but THREE pitbulls. And two are old grouchy buggers. Lovely dogs though. Barks worse than their bite. Good solid scratch behind the ears and they start tripping me up to get more. :D

Not trying to be rude but there are quite a few dogs that look like pits and arent. Glad it all worked out. You should try to give it some treats, may be the best pet you ever had. Might turn out to be a game you and your gf and play more often.

i've been bit too many times as a kid...hard to trust dogs when they seem to like to bit you! who knows, might have just been "rover security" watching your house!

I agree with some of the previous posts about these being great dogs(usually) and very kind, but you just don't know if it is the one someone has had chained up in their back yard for years. I would say your best bet in a confrontation with any breed that is known to be aggressive is to NOT make direct eye contact with them, being that it can show you are challenging the dog.

With that said, some of the best dogs I've been around are pits.

My sisters little 15lb Rat Terrier was more likely to bite people than any dog I have ever been around.

There was a red nosed pit running around a parking garage at my old work, I chased him down and got a hold of his collar and took him into our offices, gave him all the meat scraps from everyones lunches in the fridge, gave him a ride in my car to a friends house to hold him till we found the owner, he was awesome. :D

i have a pit bull now that is just a big baby but i once had a Basset Hound that would keep people in their cars till i came out and called him off. i think the personalities were swapped or something. all dogs are hard to read so i always have a walking stick in the back of my truck just in case.
