 I have about a second of blue smoke at start up!!! I know this is some sort of oil issue but the truck only has 23k on it. Any ideas or anyone with this issue?

does the truck burn oil at all(is the level ever low).if so it may be a valve guide seal or broken piston ring(s).i am not real familiar with the internal details of these 4.0's so
    this is my first guess.

Are you SURE its "Blue"? It could be the richening circuit. When it gets really cold, the ECU squirts more fuel in the engine. The result of this is a "puff" of smoke on start up.

Not blue smoke, but I've seen white smoke come outta mine the other day.

The truck gets driven every day. The other day, it sat for a day (I got the jeep outta the garage). The next day I started it up, a bunch of white smoke came out at start-up. That cleared up almost instantly - then it turned into the usual cold-air white puffin'(?)

Mine's about 2 years old with only 14k on it.

Did you have a recent oil change. I had this happen when there was too much oil in the engine.

If you're sure it's blue, have somebody else start it while you get a whif of it. If it's oil, you'll know it.

Overfilled oil will do it. It could also be coming in through a stuck open PVC valve. Worst case is it's leaking by your valve seals.

if its over filled with oil it would smoke all the time wouldn't it, or till it burns the excess oil out

How many miles? Sounds like valve seal or seals may be leaking. Smoke on start up is typical of that.:(

The truck is not driven daily so it does sit a few days without being driven. It only has 23k on it.I did just do a oil change and used 5.5 quarts and I know its blue because I used my remote start and stood behind it to make sure!!

Sounds like valve seals. I wouldn't be overly concerned but with that many miles it should be a warranty issue no?

i get white smoke from time to time if i don't drive the truck for a day or so (usually happens when i drive my dads car for a day or two). usually it clears up to just the same thing a cold engine puff. i wuld still take the truck to the dealer if its under warentee

Def. sounds like valve guide seals. You should be covered under waranty, I'd take it back to the dealer. They can do a leakdown test and pinpoint where the oil is going.

reviving this from the dead because i have seen this happen to my truck, and i was searching for similar problems. It has happened when parked uphill on my driveway and nowhere else that i am aware.
