Want to know how much if any oil you guys are adding between your oil changes to maintain the full level reading and also what your personal oil change schedule is, every 3,000, 4,000 miles etc.

I'm mainly interested in the '05+ 4 bangers, since that's what I will be getting (2008).

No oil buring here. I check my oil every few hundred miles and I really don't have to add a drop. Of course I only have about 5,000 miles on her.

I'm just doing some research. I'm not buying mine till next December. Reason I'm asking is because my 2006 350z had and still has oil consumption isssues, as do some other 2006 Z's. Before I buy a tacoma, I want to be sure there is not some kind of consumption issue with them.

    I have a 2007 2.7L PreRunner. I bought it 1/1/2007, and I now have over 26,000 miles on it. I use Mobil 1 Synthetic.

I do not burn any oil what so ever. As a matter of fact, the oil looks pretty good when it comes out too.

    Cheers!

i've found that using a full synthetic 5w30 in higher mileage engines, it will go through about a quart every few weeks. done that in a few cars including my 96 cobra, but the toyota piston ring tolerances are so tight you shouldnt have any problems

The 05's shouldn't have any oil consumption issues - and if they did.... back to the dealer it should go (warrantee).

I had a 96 Tacoma (3.4L) that lost a 1/2qt every 4,000 miles with 80K miles on the odometer. That's because I bought the truck with 60K and started using synthetics. I know some of it seeped out the the drain pan gasket - as it was constantly 'wet' with oil. I changed my oil every 4K miles.

But other than that....these trucks SHOULD be good.

Man I say if your gonna get one then drive it. :)

The whole 15,000 mile per year average thing is out of line. They must take seniors into account who only drive a small amount. My wifes grandfather only put 2,300 miles on his Toyota prerunner he bought in January of 2007!

Got 13 thou on my truck, on the 3rd oil change, truck "used" about one quarter of a quart per oil change. Still using "dino" oil and will be changing to Mobil One in the spring.

i don't have to change the oil until next May. i got free oil changes for a year thrown in by the dealer, but if it wasn't them doing it, i'd be doing it myself like i always have. i don't trust anybody except myself with that, but hey if it's free and i get a new truck if they mess it up then go ahead ya know...i'll have them throw in the 4.7l v8, i wanted to do the swap anyway

TuRDTACO, hmmm a 4.7 mated up with a 6pd a very interesting thought, or they could just do it right and add two cyclinders to the existing V6 or is the 4.7 the same block as the V6?

concrete jedi, glad to hear things are going well. I would suspect 95% of V6's will have similar results. I put this in another thread, I think, but I was gassing up next to a older Tundra and he had 236K on his truck and did not burn a drop either. He said he really did not follow Toyota's maint plan but had always used his own. Thats some serious miles. Unfortunately I was not able to get any more info from him.
