Battery Help Please

Have a 2007 V6 Tacoma - got it used 1 year ago but think the original battery is on there. Had autozone check it and after several tries (dude couldn't get his meter working at first) it said "bad battery". Now the green eye is still lit and he said it's still charging.

Autozone has Durlast for $100 but think I prefer the current brand that's on there...one with the eye thing...anyone know the name brand of the battery Toyota puts on there...also any idea how much it costs? Any better brands I should consider? Thanks a bunch

 

My second battery in my 2006 was from Walmart. Its an Everstart MAXX and its been great so far. Been a little over 2 years now.

 

Most importantly, try to find a battery that meets the existing BCI group size. The one for your truck is BCI group 24F. I replaced mine with the NAPA Legend 75, just shy of $100.

Thanks for that info man...helped a lot. Anyone know roughly how much the dealer gonna cost for a battery. Current one is 710amps....guess I need that minimum since I have TRD Sport package? thanks

 

Also my current batter says 27F??? Your pdf says 24F???

 

Try to avoid the dealer and go to a auto parts store or something like that.

You will have the 27F battery if you either live in a cold climate or have the towing package. The 24F battery is just not as powerful. Since you have the 27F, that's what you should get (and yes, that's how most brands will identify your replacement battery).

 

Thanks I have towing package so makes sense. Any suggestions on brands...don't mind spending extra $20 for a better brand if need be

 

my family have always replaced worn out batteries with interstate batteries. i bit pricey but worth the cost. Deka are well known for quality as well.

 

As others have said, avoid the dealer. If you have the 27F, then go with that size. According to the info in that PDF, all V6's after 2009 come with the 27F instead of the 24.

While big name brands like Interstate are nice, there is nothing wrong with a house brand like Autozone's Duralast or NAPA's Legend. The Walmart Everstart I put in my patrol truck has already outlasted the factory battery and it gets beat to shit out on the trails.

 

Can someone explain what the green eye indicator on the original battery means? It's still green but could the battery still be no good? My truck is starting fine...I just don't want to get stuck with a dead battery

 

It just tells you when distilled water needs to be added... Even when green, the battery can be bad.

BTW, if you buy a battery from the dealer, it will not have that green eye (at least that was how it was in my area).

I see you mentioned a Duralast Gold. They get great reviews on consumer reports and have a great warranty.

 

if you have the tow package get the 27F

it has the heavier duty alternator for the bed outlet.

Duralast are very good imo, always used them as a replacement on different cars...

 

Mine was green too....but was still shot in my 07. I replaced it with a Die hard platinum

 

Well I cleaned out the connections and had the battery tested again....said good battery this time. It's 4 years old now but starts without issues.... I'll keep using it for now I suppose....just don't want to get stuck somewhere but don't want to throw a good battery out either.

 

My stock battery lasted 6yrs. Usally you'll get a slow crank when it starts to die, but mine was just stone dead one morning, so beware. I just recently replaced it with a interstate.

 

I've lived in DFW since 1986. I've never had a battery last longer than four years. I would replace it or be sure to carry jumper cables. Texas heat is hard on batteries.
