I got a call from the body shop, and they gave me 3 choices, with totalling being the best one. There giving me $7,800 for my 96. Why do 01-04's seem to be the hardest years to find?

Lady hit me about a month ago, the body shop estimated it at around $4200..Gave me the option to total it for $7,800, or I keep the truck and they give me $6,500, or they give me the $6,500, and I pay for the damages out of that, leaving me with about $1,200 in my pocket.

So, I'm on the hunt for a new taco;)

That sucks about the old truck, but exciting to get a new one.... to find my truck I looked on Autotrader.com with no mileage limit, you just input all your specifics, and it searches listings. and also on Craigslist, all over the country. I had the best luck with Denver, Phoenix, Co Springs, and all over Cali. I was biased towards the western US because its closer to me, and there is less rust issues. you will definitely find some on those two sites. and also keeping checking for a couple weeks, as different stuff gets posted. My truck actually came from Bakersfield Ca. I flew out and bought it, and drove her home 700+ miles in one day. it requires being very cautious with the buyers tho, to purchase out of state like that.
Oh, BTW I would go with '04 for first gen or 07 or newer for second gen....as new as affordable. good luck, mang

Maybe I'm missing something, but 6500-4200= 2300. You get $6500 plus the truck and the estimate to repair the damage is $4200. Right???? The way i see it you can get your truck back, have it repaired, and pocket $2300. Guess it depends on if you want to keep your original truck.
