Flames fan here and I for one am glad they kept Iggy. He is my favorite Flame ever. We do need some serious work on our young and old age ratio.

But now that you keep Iginla, you have to chance at being a contending team for a long long time. You need to draft and develop young players to build a good team. Iginla is easily the best chance at getting young assets back. They could have had Brayden Schenn and a pick IMO from LA for him. Then turn and trade Bouemeester to Ottawa (who was always interested in him) for picks, and then keep doing that. They are doing exactly what toronto did 3-4 years ago and it fucked them up for a while. We stared with NOTHING. First valuable thing we had was Luke Schenn and that was 2008.
