I put a set of these on like 13 or so years ago. They probably have update their product since then, but no complaints here (except for a slight squeek).

First, I must commend you on your search skills. I can't imagine this thread it was comes up first when searching. :D

Put the ball joint plug in the freezer overnight. It will press into the spindle like butter.

There are some fittings on the fender you'll have to unbolt and move in order to get the pivot bolt out.

Other than that, just follow the instructions.

Ha! Thanks and thanks for the tip. I’ve been trying to search and revive old threads.
What King set up are you running? Been wavering between Kings and Icons.

They are both great quality shocks, but they are designed totally differently.

Kings are linear, Icons are digressive.

    https://accutuneoffroad.com/article...qaplguzU2UD_gTPhJjgnq_4uQiCXJXuxoCaQ4QAvD_BwE

I'm running the extended travel Kings, and I absolutely love them. As the article states, great all around performance. The street ride is great, and they hammer off road.

So it really just comes down to the type of driving you do, which will be a better fit. I had 5100s on before, and they worked fine but I could definitely tell they weren't ideal for things like potholes or big hits (as the article describes). I used to think that was because they are relatively cheap shocks, but this article shows that's a design "feature" not a bug of digressive shocks. Not having driven with high end digressive shocks, it's hard for me to say what would change going from 5100s to Icons...

As for the handling, I haven't run a swaybar since I put my Kings on. It rides just fine. Sure, it has some body roll in corners (like freeway on-ramps). No, it doesn't exactly handle like an F1 car, but that's not what I'm going for anyway. It's a trail truck, not a daily driver. If it was still a DD, I'd probably still have the swaybar.

Good article, thank you for sharing. I learned a ton and now understand why my current set up is so stiff on the smallest bumps. I’ll most likely go with a linear set and some form of long travel to take advantage of the UCAs.

What you'll want is "mid travel". That's the extended travel coilovers like I have. It's 1" more down travel.

"long travel" is an entirely new setup requiring longer control arms, etc...

You'll probably also want poly bushings for your lowers (uppers already have them) if you don't have them already. The stock rubber ones might be okay, but the extra down travel might stretch the rubber bushings a bit much.

    Good luck, and enjoy!
