    I've lost track
So I have run into a problem with my Tacoma plans. So far I have 5100's upfront, UCA's, and Spindles. In the rear I have an Allpro pack and 10" Fox resi's. Here's where I'm having a hard decision...

I want to one day go long travel. I was planning on doing a bed cage, putting 16" shocks and then saving for the front Total Chaos kit. I have already paid for a bed cage to be built (has not started) and have the money to buy the 16" shocks. So the back is basically ready to go once I buy shocks. My issue is that it would take me a long time to save for the front, while working my current job and going to school.

Another thing is my Dad doesn't want me to cut the bed of the truck. And if I do it I'd have only 5100s and UCA's in front but LT in the rear, for who knows how long.

Thats what got me thinking that if I said forget the bed cage, leave the back how it is, and put the money into some Fox coil overs for the front, and some air bumps too. The truck would do way better then how it does now, and I wouldn't cut the bed. Basically I'd be settling for a good mid travel instead of having a half ass LT for who knows how long.

What's everyone think? What would you do??

Thanks. I like the way it looks, but the suspension could be a lot better and I take it offroad at least once a week. I'm really considering doing coilovers.

I voted for mid-travel. You kind of get the best of both worlds. Good on-road ride, but awesome off road performance.

Thanks!! I would like to put money into suspension but can't really afford any good stuff ATM. But I'm currently awaiting my 1.5 wheel spacers from All Pro Offroad.

    Don't cut the bed unless it's a toy. Mid-travel.

To build on your list, do you already have SUA's for the rear? Are you factoring in the price of fiberglass in the rear? You then have some additional fabricating costs above that.

I feel that with LT you need to do it right the 1st time so you won't have many issues in the end. For the rear expect your total cost to be $5000+ depending on components picked.

So I say get the front coilovers and air bumps for the rear. I was in the same thought process this week myself. I'm going to get the Icon 2.5 rears and air bumps for the rear.

You may want limit straps too...The down travel on the Allpro springs is a lot more then I anticipated, with the shock being the limiting factor.

Air bumps will make a world of difference though. After riding with my cousin in his truck, I was amazed at what a good spring/shock combo can do with air bumps all around, UCA's, and some coil overs.

I have decided to do the bed cage and then coil overs later on. Basically because the way the the rear is setup now I will destroy whatever shock I use unless I put limit straps, which will limit the travel a lot. I have bought everything from members here, used online, or at cost through Loftis Motorsports (good honest guys). The rear has cost me $400 for springs bushings and brake lines, $400 for the bed cage, and around $400 for shocks. Totalling $1200. I'll be pulling pretty good numbers too (dont have a messurement yet) and I don't need bedsides. To go SUA all I would have to do is buy springs (Allpro Baja's $500). All labor is basically free and materials and parts are at cost or used. Maybe I can't go buy a kit and spend $5000 on all the nice bypasses and bedsides, but for a fulltime student working as the manager at a Pizza Hut....I think I'll have a pretty sweet setup.
