How much of a task would it be to remove a body lift?!

So I bought my truck with it on and with my coilovers I really like the look of the 5-6 inch lift. Only thing is I want to get bumpers and sliders all that good stuff you know but do not want a gap in it so thinking about taking it off. Does anyone know how hard this will be or what I will need once it is off? Any help will be good thanks.

 

You are going to need either the stock bolts or shorter ones. And from what my friends have done they lifted the body and pulled the spacers out, I can't find a guide but from my understanding you have to keep the body aligned and your good to go.

 

Cool that should not be hard at all. I will try to get stock bolts. So what about any extenders it may have come with do you know anything about that?

I think it may be a performance accessories body lift they seem to be the most common.

 

If its a 3'' or 2'' then it will probably have radiator brackets you will need to take off. It will also have a steering spacer you need to take off. If thats your truck in the picture with the BL then you will need to take off the front and rear bumper brackets as well as the brackets for the steps I think. I might be wrong, but you can check and see if it has the brackets and if you need to take them off.

 

Yea the steps will go if the BL goes for sure. I have not thought of all that with the other brackets and stuff. May be an aggravating task but think it will be worth it in the end.

 

From prior experience the job isn't too hard but it gets expensive. The factory hardware I had from the previous owner cost him close to 200 bucks plus the the 80-something for new cab bushings from energy suspension but other than that its unbolt, remove and lower slowly.

i suggest you do the bed first the only thing back there is the bumper and the gas filler neck extensions.

when doing the cab your have the front bumper brackets, radiator extensions steering extension, and possibly fuel lines to remove/move. be sure to strap your steering wheel to the oh shit handle so when you disconnect the steering wheel so the wheel won't move and you dont snap your clockspring. other than that its not too bad.

make sure you got plenty of friends to help lift it up

 

Just leave it on dude, how do you plan on fitting those tires without the bl ? Also I believe relentless fab makes brackets to raise the bumper

 

Ok cool if I get around to doing it I will do it slowly to make sure it is done correctly and I figured it would cost a lot.

I did see that relt. fab. does make a bumper for a Bl and I will go to a 33/10.5 of 11.5 tire if I take it off. The reason I want to take it off is I have seen and read all the stories about them coming off and snapping I do not want that to happen to me at all.

No they come out to be a 33/12.5/R16

 

I took a three inch bodylift off my 98, wasn't that bad but was a bit tedious and you need to be careful with brake lines and the steering shaft extender.

 

Also kind of thinking about removing mine,my bed and cab have alot of movement over even the smallest bumps

 

Those tires should be fine. They will rub a little bit when take off the body lift but nothing some minor trimming cant fix.

 

Yea when it takes place I will take my time with it all. I want it done right. The kit was put on very well but don't want stuff coming off when I start wheeling hard.

 

Yea I will trim if needed def not afraid to hack a lil sheet metal off.

 

So do you think that taking the BL off will be worth it in the long run or just to much to even worry about?

 

I think it would be worth it. Im taking mine off this winter and getting a tube bed.

The reason i got the BL was so the rear bumper could fit because it was made for a 1'' or 2'' BL. I didnt know that and it was cheaper at the time to go ahead and get the BL. So now im lined up to buy a tube bed, and when i get it, i will take off the BL. I just dont like it and there is an ugly gap between my front bumper and my sliders.
