2006 Limited Slip Differential - Mobil 1

I just stopped by the auto parts store and picked up 3 quarts of Mobil 1 75w 90w differential oil for my 2006 with LSD. The bottle says it is made for a LSD, I haven't put it in yet, but now I was wondering if that is okay for the Tacoma with LSD. I have a 2 wheel drive Tacoma with the a LSD rear end.

Anyone using the Mobil 1 synthetic stuff?

 

Do not use the Synthetic for a limited slip. The LSD will slip and chatter.

Just get a tube of friction modifier and use that with regular dino oil. Add the entire tube of modifier and then fill the diff as you would.

 

I've never heard of any complaints about the Redline Synthetic diff. oil.

I have an 08 AC and I use it primarily for towing a 4K lb trailer, it has 20Kmiles(bought it with 10K a year ago and all it had hauled is air) so it's time for a rear-end lube change. Just a few questions:

Is 75-90 the recommended weight gear oil for the rear on my 08?
Does it need a gl4 or gl5 rating?
Is the LSD lube something I can get at the local auto store?
Any other info on this would be helpful

Doesn't the owner's manual tell you the type oil (GL4 or GL5 and weight)? I'd just follow that.

But I've read the GM LSD friction modifier works best... get it at a Chevy or GMC Truck dealer prolly.

 

80w-90 recommended + friction modifier. As soon as I switched to 80w-90 dino oil (from

75w-90) chatters were cured.

 

You'll probably find the Sta-Lube Equa-Torque Limited Slip Additive in a blue bottle at the auto parts stores (that's where I found mine). A lot of the Toyota dealerships use the same stuff. Here's a link to it so you know what you're looking for:

I used Trans-X lsd additive that I picked up at Autozone with regular gear oil and it works perfect.

75W-90 full synthetic gear lube for LSD's now without even the hint of chattering. I don't see what the problem is, the Redline full synthetic works like a charm.

 

I wouldnt add the whole tube of the friction modifier at once. Add about half if it chatters add some more. If you add the whole tube your limited slip may turn into an open diff...

 

I have been running FULLY SYN Amsoil severe gear 75-90 WITH Amsoil LSD modifier for 30k+ miles and NO problems!! I have a 08 LSD Sport

Don't believe everything you read on the interent from the above ...that do not have the LSD 05-08s

 

I used Royal Purple, no need for additives. No chattering what so ever.

 

Going on 90k with the same set up. Amsoil is all I use in all my vehicles, it's all I've put in the taco (motor oil as well) and no problems.
