Looks very good. Which Baja Rack did you get? The Mule or the one made for the Tacoma?

The one made for the Tacoma DC. It's great... very sturdy, lightweight, super-simple install.

My truck came with the OEM racks... I've had it for 1.5 years now and have literally used them one time hauling 16 foot fence boards. They worked fine, though, but I noted that the "max weight" is only like 100 lbs or something. Struck me as a bit odd since I'm used to seeing people with loads of gear on roof racks...

where did you get these cross bars? Do they attach to the side rail bars or do you have to drill holes for the bars?

My question for those with racks: How do you feel about how secure the racks are to the truck? Ever had anything fly off while driving or actually rip the rack from the truck? Any other horror stories?

Only used my rack twice since putting it on. No issues. The BajaRack is designed for use with the factory rack/rails so I think it is naturally very secure. I can yank on the thing and it moves the entire truck; the rack is solid as they come.

The rack mounts to the truck solid. I am a bit concerned about the OEM crossbars long term.

I have a bajarack on my OEM bars and when I go camping I strap two oversized tent cots into the basket. The basket is bolted to the cross bars and everything is solid but I would be happier if the crossbar ends were beefier. I wouldn't be concerned at all if I always stayed on roads and highways. I'm mostly worried about the ends, not the bars, breaking while off road.

I also want to secure the bars to the rack better than they are. Due to the folding cross arm design there is only one bolt each and the latching side is made of plastic. I want to bolt my latch ends down and reinforce the pivot ends too. It would also make it more difficult to steal. ;)

The basket is 38 pounds and the tent cots are 25+ pounds each so I don't toss anything else up there besides a few tarps. The 100 pound load limit must be due to the crossbars or is it really the limit of the roof?

I carry a 14.5' kayak on mine and it feels pretty secure. I've drien 100+ miles with it and didn't even have to tighten the straps much during the trip.

I have a friend who was carrying a kayak and had the factory rack tear right off of a Suburban. So, when I carry my kayak, I put an extra strap over the kayak and through the rear doors and ratchet it down. that way it's connected to the truck itself and not just the rack. I'm not sure it makes a difference, but it makes me feel better about it.

I got a rack from US Rack that fits into the Tacoma rail system and removes in 5-10 minutes. It supports Yakima or Thule systems (round and square rails). There are pictures on their site, right at $400. Pleased with quality and their support. I had two missing washers for the quick release knobs (track system) and they mailed them. It cost more for the postage than two washers but I had them 3 days after I sent them an email. I talked to them twice and they are very helpful, good support and product, I recommend.:D
