That's very enticing.... My old tailgate still needs some more body work, sanding, and painting done to it.

 

it does look tempting haha I have the same problem... my tailgate is all dented!

 

If yours has been stolen, smashed, or otherwise unusable, an "airgate" or other web gate makes a cheap/quick fix.
Personally, I'd get another gate from a junkyard and paint it.

Ok, clear this up for me--I have a couple of of dents on my tailgate and it's scratched pretty bad, but the taigate itself is fine. Can I buy this and pop it my tailgate frame, paint it and be done?

 

You should be able to, as long as the guts of it are still intact

you should be able to remove the old tailgate shell off your tailgate and replace it with this one.... for twenty bucks you cant go wrong

 

I called a bunch of junkyards and they all dont seem to carry any tacomas

 

My experience with aftermarket sheet metal was that the parts didn't fit as good as factory, the bolt holes would not line up,alignment was terrible, mostly because after about a million of these parts were stamped put the dies wore out, and the manufacture just kept on shitting them out. I guess its worth a try for $19, as long as it doesn't have a big dent in it when it arrives.

 

What's a good tailgate lock or something we can do to prevent someone from stealing the tailgate?

 

i bought one a while back and havent got around to painting it i dont know if i could do it myself or get it done professionally?

Both lower corners of my tailgate are rusted & I'm debating on what action to take...

1) buy a used one (this will probably require $ for body work / paint)
2) something like this (which will also require $ for paint)
3) POR-15 & bondo to cover up what I've got + some vinyl decals to cover it up.
