Just installed my new supercharger in my '09 DC and the dealer says they can't reflash my ECU because of the accelerator pedal recall/reflash issue that was done to my truck last year. They are telling me I need a new ECU and it's going to be $780 plus install. Now I'm driving around a crippled supercharged Tacoma that needs programming!! HELP!!!!!!

Try another dealer that knows what to do. Or if the dealer installed the SC tell them you want it fixed or they take it off for no charge and put it back on for no charge since they F'ed up.

Your dealer is kind of right from what I know.

If you have a 6spd manual its not an issue. If you have an auto and had the transmission/ecu reflash then they cant take it backwards and reflash the ECU for the supercharger.

This is what I read a while ago while researching the supercharger for my 6spd. I would honestly call TRD and get the straight story because I though they had fixed that issue. There are some here with the auto transmission that can chime in with more info than I have.

Yea, this is definatly something the dealer should have told you BEFORE you bought and installed it. I would also file a complaint with Toyota as well as the customer service manager at the dealership.

Might be a time to get an aftermarket programmer? something that can balance out the system for what you have

He will end up paying the same amount for a programmer and a tune as he would for an ECU when he should have at least been informed about this issue.

Oh I agree completely, If theres a way to stick it to toyota for leaving you stranded like this then make em fix it.

But on the other hand, if it can't be resolved, don't just buy the new ecu, shop around cause if your paying that much anyways there are alot of aftermarket options available to him

The other issue with going with an aftermarket tuner and tun is if he ever did have supercharger/engine issues it would be very easy for the dealership to play the "your aftermarket tune directly lead to the failure of the supercharger/engine" game. If he is having the issue he is already then I can definatly see that happening.

Again, I would call TRD and speak with them directly about it. If they validate what your dealer told you then I would call toyota complaint line an file a complaint with toyota.

Actually yea, what he said, aftermarket ecu would void your warrantee. Missed the part where you said you were concerned about that

So here are the rest of the facts.....I purchased and installed my supercharger myself. It is a 6spd manual. I hadn't read much about this issue before making the commitment. I'm at a bit of a loss. I'm into this project enough that I'm not that upset about the additional cost, I just hope that maybe my pain can help other members avoid such pitfalls. Any other words of wisdom before I submit to the dealer?????

What model years did this effect? Does a newer model already have the gas pedal flash from the factory so it can still receive the s/c program?

I was thinking about calling Gadget on this one. He sure seems to be the authority on boosted motors.

OK, YOUR DEALER IS FULL OF SHIT. The ECU reflash can be done on a manual transmission truck. My 2010 6spd came with the new flash in the truck already, then I had the S/C installed and ECU reflashed for the S/C. This was October of last year. The only reflash issue was with the automatic transmissions and i believe that has even be fixed. You need to call TRD directly and ask your question. If they tell you that there is no issue with the reflash (I am 95% sure they will) then you need to call Toyota complaint line and file a complaint. It will then get pushed to the dealership customer relations manager and you should get it fixed. They are jacking you around.

I wouldn't file a complaint. You can't expect a service department to know everything about every model produced. But now that you are educated you can now go to the dealer and present them with what you have learned and they will do the research on their end. Everything will get resolved.
