Bigger tires looking for re gearing

    undercover canopy, K&N intake, 1.5in aal, 1in diff drop doug thorley headers, total chaos upper control arms, debadged, fog lights, Nokya Arctic Yellow fogs, 25% tint, isimple aux, kings remote reservoir,
    Im looking to get 285/70/17 duratracks but im not sure my 4 banger can handle that so i think some re gearing would be the best way to go but i dont know what gears to get?

    I just put a 3" lift with 285/75/16s on my 2.7. At first I thought it would be fine but after driving a few weeks I realized gears would help alot. I was thinking of 4.56 but my mechanic wants to through 4.88 saying 4.56 really won't make much of a change from the 4.10 i have now. I know I didn't answer your question but that's where I'm at on the situation.

    i have 4.88s and love it. some people would go 4.56 especially if you do a lot of highway driving. im a 2.7L with 33s

    I have 305 33's and I didn't regear and I'm not going to (4 banger 4x4). I think 88's might be overkill. Is it possible that when they came up with factory gearing that they took into account that trucks haul and tow stuff? If you don't haul or tow much of anything (I don't), 56's might be fine for your needs. I would personally rather have it be a little sluggish off the line, then hitting redline at 75 MPH down the freeway.

    i have your same settup with 4.88s and i hit 3k rmps at 75mph

    It makes a huge difference going up hills - it's 100000x better.
