My goal, over the next few months, is to compile and build a 2nd rifle

My issue comes in at my plan to dura-coat most of the entire rifle

I have building the lower down pat and know what parts I need etc

I want to build a carbine length upper with a 10.5" barrel

Can anyone post a list of exactly what parts I NEED?

Sourcing wont be a problem...just need to know WHAT I need

are you starting from a completely stripped upper? as in, no forward assist or ejection cover?

Don't forget the BATF Form 1 and the U$ Tax stamp. Plus an engraver since you need to put your name and location info on the receiver.

Is that because of the 10.5" length? I know I wouldn't need any of that for a 16" barreled upper...

    thanks slack ass :D

Yeah all that will be taken care of...

I'm having this new rifle dura-coated, and the shop I'm planning on using requires complete disassembly...so rather than buy assembled, disassemble, and then reassemble...

I just want to buy all components, have everything dura-coated, and then assemble it all...more than likely I'll end up bringing everything back up to Palmetto State to get the assembly done

BCG is taken care of, as I found a deal on a full-auto BCG already...

so pretty much it appears to me that I need:

    Upper receiver
Ejection port cover and associated small parts
Forward assist and associated small parts
    Barrel
    Gas line/block
    Hand guard
    Delta ring and associated parts
    Sights

If you want to do a freefloat upper you'll be using a handguard with barrel nut in place of the delta ring. Delta ring assy is for the M4-style handguards.

Also, you need a gas tube pin roll pin to hold the tube to the block. And you might need a couple gas block taper pins if you're using a pin-on block. Don't forget the crush washer or shims and mzzle device of choice. Plus you need a charging handle.

Wish I was as comfortable working under my Tacoma as I was wrenching on an AR. I'd have one badass rig.

yeah i havent completely decided about the handguard yet

I have a free float on my midlength rifle

is it possible to get a 10.5 barrel, low profile gas block, and put a longer handguard than a carbine length so that the rail covers the gas block and goes to almost the end of the barrel?

Yes, people do it all the time. Anything you see listed as "low profile" should fit under most free-float rails. You can even chop an A2 front sight base and make a low pro gas block pretty easily if you have one laying around and your barrel has taper pin holes.

Yup, it's a Troy TRX. Lightest rail out there. I'm probably going to put one on my next rifle as well.

I've never understood the need for a feather weight rifle, always felt that a little weight up there helped with control.
