It'll be interesting to hear when you guys get back how much snow you come across. There's still 6 feet of snow up there right now. Caples Lake is still frozen (as of Father's Day...see attached pic). The county decided not to plow MET this year and just wait until it all melts due to the cost of clearing it. The top 10 miles is still covered in snow. And they said it should be melted and open sometime in August.

DAM  that's crazy if there is still that much the water crossings may not be passable on Deer valley trail.

There's a distinct possiblity of a light at the end of the tunnel that's not a train. :stirthepot:

It might all end up for the better....

Oooh, I didn't realize you were planning Deer Valley too. I highly doubt you'll get across that just because of the snow. In fact, Blue Lakes Rd is still closed (supposedly you can only get a couple miles down the road). Water crossing or not, Deer Valley is likely to be covered deep in snow.

We did go up across Carson Pass on Father's Day and that's when I tried to get up to Crater Lake. I only got so far before I ran into piles 6 feet deep. Who knows what the next 3 weeks hold, but even if Sacto was in the 100's, I still kind of doubt it's going to melt that fast up there. If MET isn't supposed to be melted at the 7K foot level until August, neither of those two trails may be passable as I think both are at or above 7K. Remember, Carson Pass is over 8K feet and the road from Strawberry comes in above Caples Lake. And doesn't Deer Valley dump in kind of high up on Hwy 4?

    EDIT:
In case you don't have it, here's the link to the EDNF roads and their status. You'll need Blue Lakes Rd to be open to get to Deer Valley Trail. Also consider that Woods Lake road is close to the same elevation as where Strawberry Pass comes in (Woods is a little bit higher).

Snake lake is one of the more difficult ones from what I here but I have never been on it. The only trail I've been on up there is the trail that goes up to upper sardine lake but its pretty damn easy
