    dude i love my toyota as well, but the power wagons are just pure bad ass there is no arguing that really. i would keep your truck the way it is its the nicest 4 banger on her besides tacovendors and mine :) just buy an old toyota trail rig that some one else pulled out hair over doing an sas .

    they are badass. however the parademic i work with has one and the 11-13mpg he sees is not badass. 13mpg regular driving. 11mpg pulling a 7500lb 31ft camper.

    Ive had 3 jeeps and 2 tacomas. I much prefer to drive the tacoma on the highway. Offhighway it will take me 95% of they places I want to go.

    The jeeps took me that other 5% of places.

    If you had a sliding scale with extreme wheeling on one end and grocery getter on the other, the jeep will be on the extreme end.

    The Tacoma does most everything pretty darn well but the jeep is a specialist. Not the most comfortable thing to drive expecially for any distance but once you get it off the pavement it is a pure joy.

    As far as reliability the pages of this forum are littered with unreliability. Sometimes you get a gem and sometimes you get a lemon.

    I bought the Tacoma because I like to travel and offroad and camp, it does it all the jeep not as great for travel. Not as great for camping due to limited storage capacity.

    haha i never said it was good on gas i just said it was bad ass and it is the power wagon is sexy as fuck!

    i wanted something that was good on gas and with a few grand into it could go pretty much any where the big ones go and my reg cab can do that now. i would just find an old toyota that some hilbilly already sas'd and fixer up into a trail monster.

    i saw a guy at the shop that installed my lift today and he had a 4 runner that was a beast those trucks helped forge a serious rep for toyota i know thats why i bought one. those old stories about 280 on the odometer and its a full service trail rig and daily driver lol.

    A common misconception. This forum is littered with problems because people not having any problems rarely make their way to internet forums. On here, you see a disproportionately large number of the folks with issues.

    Statistically valid random samples, like the stuff in Consumer Reports and JD Power, shows you how bad Chrysler products have it in terms of long term reliability compared to Toyota. Toyota isn't what it used to be, but it's still not as bad as the domestics.

    x2 plus since your going to be wheeling with it in what ever enviroment, your going to break stuff often, and the fact that most junk yards a littered with cherokees and powerwagons not so much w/ wranglers, is a huge plus and im sure if you look over craigslist, you can find a decked out powerwagon with more geared towards what you want for way less than a toyota with half as much done, and as far as the its better to build than buy i 100% agree but theres always room to build more

    Base model Jeeps are not worth it. Even after you choose the factory options, that include better axles, lockers front and rear, etc, there are still parts of the Jeep you will not be happy with. For example, the new Jeeps are powered by the Chrysler mini Van engine.

    The Jeep guys are always upgrading their parts, because that is what we do in this hobby. You are not better off with a Jeep, just like the Jeep guys are not better off with a Toyota.

    I'm not disputing statistics just pointing out that statistics don't mean anything if you get a lemon. If I buy the worst car for mechanical defects and reliability and never have a problem, that means more to me than buying the best statistically and taking it to the dealer every week. I had 3 jeeps one of which was 14 years old and over a 158,000 on it same engine. On the flip side my Tacoma had to go to arbitration for a reaccuring problem. So that's my personal experience. That said I'm hoping my Tacoma sees many good years to come!
