hmmm lets see I have a 97 Honda that's been owned since new & pretty much used year round up here in New England & its frame looks pretty darn good compared to my 2006 Truck.
Both maintained meticulously & washed regularly especially in Winter Salt season.
No scrubbing, wire brushing or rust preventive done to the frame to other than mfg paint treatment.
As far as pics, the only lot I ever saw that looked like this when Toyota did the crush back & they are still rusting...:notsure:

Not trying to be as ass to you. I was just asking. As far as snow I live in the Appalachian mountains, so we get two months of snow a year. And this is how we do.

Salt brine is a mixture of salt, water and sometimes a chemical that helps keep roads from freezing, as well as keeping snow from sticking to the road.

I live literally 100 feet from the Pacific Ocean and they salt our roads in winter .

My 14 year old Ford Ranger had less frame rust on it than my 2009 Tacoma .

They tried the salt brine up here. It didn't stop the snow from sticking & made the roads solid ice. Maybe they didn't do it right but I cringe when I see the salt brine truck & glad I run studded snow tires. Something about spreading water in sub freezing temps. I guess it works in some places, it was an experiment here.

Dana builds it to Toyota specification, using the materials Toyota tells them to based on Price. When your walmart LG fails and my LG does not, it's not LG's fault. They built to Wal-Mart "specifications"- Cheapest Parts.

My Jeep Grand Cherokee is Dana built and after 15 years is no where near as bad as my 07 Tacoma. It actually had it much worse since it's first 7 years was in MD next to the coast.

Our temperatures hovers from freezing/above freezing/ freezing, so we keep a lot of the ice no matter what they do from refreezing melted slush. In the valley it is not as bad.

Ummm, Honda car or truck? I don't know of a honda car with a frame... just asking... haha :notsure:

I'm glad at least a few people agree with me. I've been driving for the past day or two moving and what not. I plan on doing one more frame treatment now that I'm here in Cali, and I doubt I will have to do another before I leave here.

You guys can argue that the paint sucks, I'm not disputing that.
You guys can argue on why you shouldn't be having to do this maintenance on a brand new truck. Whatever, agreed.

But when you guys WATCH your truck rust, and claim 'Its not my job' and don't try to take care of it.... I have no pity for you. That's all I'm saying. You know its going to happen, especially New Englanders.

Here in Northwestern PA, we have some shitty winters along with shitty roads.. I have owned lots of vehicles and have undercoated them every year - basically using a mixture of used motor oil. The last 5 years, I found a guy that does it and it is easier for me to have him do it - no mess in my garage! I've never had a problem.

Now this is my first Tacoma and hopefully I don't have any problems. One of the reasons I bought it was seeing it was undercoated by the previous owner (it is an 07). And everything was done - a thick buildup of oil was everywhere ( I looked at the truck before it was detailed at the dealership). So the original owner had undercoated it every year.

10 year old trucks in my area that haven't been undercoated are usually in poor shape. A body man I know just showed me a 2003 Sierra Ext Cab with rusted through rockers and rusted out rear spring hangars. The truck only has 75,000 miles.... And the owner wondered what the banging sound was under his truck.

The real kick in the ass will be when you go to all the trouble of undercoating the frame, it then rusts out and Toyo refuses to honor the warranty due to mods.

If I remember correctly, there were several people locally that undercoated their Gen 1 Tacomas and they did buy them back. Hopefully this will still be the case if I would happen to run into a problem. $40.00 a year for the guy to undercoat it is cheap preventative maintenance.
