I have a new to me 2004 Tacoma double cab, and the driver's side door refuses to stay open. The other three doors will remain open without any issue, but as soon as you take your hand off of this door it will shut itself.

I just installed my lift kit from Toytec, so instead of the door shutting on my knees it will shut on my thighs, which doesn't hurt nearly as bad. :p

Any solutions for this? Perhaps something simple I am overlooking?

same here with my 2000. the passenger door will stay open but the driver door will not. I looked into it theres a black bar by the hinges that keeps it open. maybe replace the parts in it?

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.

X2 i did this on my truck when i bought it and it's good as new now. I think it was like 20 or 25 bucks at the dealer but that was a wile ago and i don't really remember what it cost.

I've read some threads about this before... mine needs replaced too...
Isn't a bunch of "taking the door apart" needed?

I think it's called a door catch. They're not easy to replace and they are expensive. I am still wondering if there's a ghetto way to fix this.

Mine does it too, always did since new. I happen to like it that way as a lot of times I have my hands full and that door shuts itself:)

Weld a bead on the existing catch and grind down till it holds the door open and still closes?

I think they are plastic OTOH.

Maybe you could drill a hole in it and put a rivet through it to make a new catch

Yes on OEM, no on aftermarket. Nobody makes the part. You have to scour junk yards or find a used one on ebay. I'm tempted to buy one for a Camry and see if I can make it work. Toyota rakes you over the coals on these things.
