Kyle Green did Wang's without cutting the cab. It makes it easier to weld 360 on the top bars but if you build it in the right steps its not needed

like JD said, it makes it a whole hell of a lot easier to weld everything up and allows for a better job... but it's not 100% necessary

alot of people do cut the top off though...

yeah im not cutting the roof off my truck haha.

if you do score tag your truck i heard either you have to cut off the roof of your truck or drill holes in the roof for them to inspect the welds 360 degrees.

jd are you cutting off your roof?

    absolutely!!

that is pure insanity unless its made of gold...

it is necessary to cut the roof off to fully weld the tubes...you can do small squares above the weld as well....a score legal cage has to be 100% welded

putting the roof back is as simple as placing sawzall blades to create a gap and welding it up. some grinding and sanding and you never know it came off

last place to skimp and not fully weld tubes is the cab cage.... its meant to save your life during a high speed roll......suck to die from a un-welded tube impaling you

No my plan is to keep it on. I wont ever get mine tagged but I want it as close to score rules and specs as possible. Not to bag on any people but you have to be carfeul what kind of cage you copy. A lot of them are not following some of the major points score outlines. But like Matt said they arent race trucks they are weekend bashers

This cage is 360 welded and never cut off the roof

Material costs are a big factor. 2" .120 wall seamless chromoly tube isn't cheap. It's possible to do a race-legal cage with 1.75" but the truck has to be lightened up substantially as the tube diameter requirements are based on vehicle weight.

Smaller diameter tube is easier to fit in the truck, so fabrication becomes less complicated and thus less expensive if you go that route.

Hell yeah my truck tips the scales. The driveshaft skid alone is around 150lbs.

it can definitely be done. its just a matter of building everything then sliding it up into place. either way is time consuming lol
