    Justin,

Beautiful Bike. I have some questions for you. How do these compare to 600/750 like suzuki/yamahas?

I had a 600 R6 and not looking to get a 750 Gixxer. I don't care for the Liter bikes as I like the quicker steering or a 600 so I figure a 750 would be a great all around bike.

    Thanks

    Tri

    Tri,

My last bike was an '04 GSXR 750 so I can actually compare the two personally! The 750 has more power, ~150bhp to ~135bhp on the Duc, but that's only on the way top end of the revs being an inline 4. Great if you spend a bunch of time wrapped out. Super super smooth on the low end, just no usable power down low. Very easy to ride especially around town.

The 848 has gobs of low end torque that doesn't quit until you hit the rev limiter. The rev limiter comes up REALLY quick as it is pretty revvy for a v-twin. Around town or in stop and go traffic it'll give your forearm a good workout with a heavy clutch pull and plenty of slipping the clutch. I have not once missed the hp as the torque and usable power band on the road more than make up for it. I prefer twins having owned both which was a major factor for me in buying the Duc. Went from sv650 to the GSXR then the 848. The 848 is noticeably more stable when leaned over and holds a line nicer for me I think.

All of that said I would still buy another GSXR 750 in a heartbeat!:D I just wouldn't trade the 848 for one. The 750's are like a really fast 600, its great. You will not be disappointed with the 750!

BTW Tri i'm extremely jealous of your track day at Laguna! I saw you posted up in the MotoGP thread, you gonna make it? I'll be there with the wife but no bikes.

Thanks! The matte black is amazing looking, just really hard to keep nice in the long run i've heard. Plus they weren't out when I got mine. It's an '08. Might have seen it already but mine looks like this now... semi gloss powder coat finish on the wheels now.

i think that set-up would look nice if it didn't make me think of the mexican flag (yes, i know its italy's flag but i don't have to dodge virgin-mary-hooded civics every morning occupied by italians on my daily commute)
every bike i have owned and ridden has been a v-twin.....i don't think i would even know how to ride an inline. plus, my fatass needs that low-end torque

That is a lot of great information, Thanks.

Yes I am planning on going there just not sure where to stay yet. I got the Friday and Monday off. It's a travel for me. Last time I was living in SJ when I went there. And this would be the first time for me to see MotoGP. Last time it was World Superbike. I might just get a camp site there. We'll see. I think Ducati's are sexy. And now the GSX-R750 is not that much cheaper. It will depend on how i feel when I sit on it. I sat on the GIxxer and it felt nice.

I highly recommend camping there man. Its a blast. We have met some cool people and always had a good time. Its more of a full experience. Plus its CHEAP. Facilities stay clean too.

If you wanna know what the Ducatis feel like just go find a wooden saw horse and sit on it... Seriously. They are real narrow, and have plywood for seats!

I am strongly considering camping. Do they have dedicated spots?

LOL I'm short so narrow is better for me.

My old R6 was narrow and the newer ones are wide and it doesn't feel right. The old Gixxer was side and i didn't like that and the newer ones are narrow. Weird.

The Archery camping area (you will see it when you get your tickets online) is first come first served and its is a hilly grass area with no defined camp spots really. Just find a patch of ground as close to level as you can and set up camp. There are areas for campers and rv's that are designated and marked spots up above the track around T5 and T6 but those are booked up WAY back in Dec or Jan and aren't worth the money if you are tent camping. For the Archery general camping area the bring in nice shower facilities with hot water and sinks with running hot water. Port-o-johns are cleaned daily and even fit for the ladies most of the time. Shuttle runs up and down from camping to the track every 15 min or so and the drivers are always real cool. People drinkin beers on the buses and whatnot. Good times. It sure beats paying the exorbitant prices for hotels or motels in the area.

But there is a spot to park the truck? Is there a lot where I park the truck and then find a place to tent? Can I tent near the truck?
