It will likely feel pretty underpowered with the 22RE, unless it is regeared (looks like an SAS, so pretty likely, I suppose). Go drive it up an onramp and then see what you think.

Seems like it would be OK for mainly offroading in low, etc., but not a DD.

    Price seems high, IMO.

    I'd do a carfax first.

I found an awesome looking ride like that and it was 5+ hours away and I kept pressuring the guy for the vin #. He finally gave it to me and I ran a carfax and found out it had a rebuilt title.

Well crap my 4x4 ranger was just totaled (cosmetically) but frame & everything else was fine and I wanted a "clean" title so I passed on it. I ended up driving by his place 3-4 months later and that beautiful truck is still sitting on the his lot.

To me it was worth it to check out via carfax as I found a number of tacomas that were repo'd, rebuilt titles, owned by companies whose employees don't give a crap about the rigs, etc. Well worth the small investment for a large outlay. Besides if you do see something suspect it might be a good bargaining chip for you.

    Best of luck,

Yeah, this is not actually a Tacoma. It is a Pickup (that is what Toyota called them before the Tacoma change), and it is a little bit different. The 4 cyl 22re is famously reliable and has good torque, but when you load up the truck (xtra cab, 4x4 hardware), it ain't too peppy...unless you add a header... These trucks also came with a 3.0 v6 that was notorious for blown head gaskets.

Edit: it does nto look like this one has a header, BTW.

yeah i know they werent tacos till 95, but some things worry me with it the closer i look at the pics, why doesnt it have an rpms guage? dont you kinda need that with a manny? i mean i can tell by sound and feel when to shift gears but still. and also it looks to me like they switched the front seats...the guy told me they put a cpl grand in the truck which also raises a red flag, he said 1200 for tires they put on but didnt tell me the other stuff, so im wondering what they had to fix to make it like that. i dont need pep tho, ive had enough speeding tix in my early days of driving, plus i dont want to spend my $ on one. i need it for a truck, to haul hay and occasionally pull a small horse trailer...plus play on some back roads :).
