I know the 'how do you/can you convert a prerunner to 4x4' question has been beaten to death. I see it can be done, but what are the positives and negatives of doing this in the long run?

Info: I work for a Career and Technical Ed department (high schools). We have a dedicated "vocational" school that has an incredible auto program. They actually build some NASCAR cars from the ground up, including the building of the frame, cage, install of motor, etc. Graduates have gone on to work for RCR and other top-flight auto programs, so I have complete faith in their work.

This being said... I asked our director today if he'd be interested in giving them a project where they converted my 2008 double cab Sport into a 4x4. He said he'd love to as long as I buy the parts, then added he thought if we found a wrecked 08 4x4 he thought it could be as low as $600-$800 for parts.

So... Should I? Why or why not?

    Thanks in advance.

Labor is free for the conversion, only cost is parts. Trading mine in now i'd be financing another $9000. I'd get the dbl cab long bed sport...

honestly.. I go out to the desert all the time and never worry about getting stuck and I've got a Sport PreRunner...

if youre doing trails, I would definitely get it. Peace of mind.

Is the 6-8 benjamines worth it to you?

Now, I think you were asking wether there would be long term problems or not..

I don't think there should be as long as you use nice parts...

    Nice.

Although I'm looking to improve my taco, the meat isn't an issue...

I guess my real question is about the value of the vehicle after comversion. Will I be stuck with it forever once this is done? Will it increase (guessing not) in value?
